Woooohooooo!!! Abbie has been sort of sitting for a while.... sits up but then

keels over sideways or backwards. We've all been thinking, she seems to be

strong enough but doesn't see any advantage to sitting, she can play/crawl/etc.

just as well lying down. My husband and I had Abbie over the weekend while her

parents were working (and, OK, deer-hunting, he got one) and I was thinking,

obviously she's strong enough, what can I use to motivate her to keep the

sitting position??? AHA, what Abbie loves best (besides love)..... food!!! So I

got her little dish and spoon and sat her on the floor and she opened her little

mouth and I gave her some peas. She keeled over. I offered her another spoonful

and she opened her mouth and I said, " No, Abbie, sit up, " and sat her up again

and she opened her mouth and I gave her more peas. She keeled over and we went

through the routine again. I showed her how to sit herself up sideways from an

on-the-floor position and we started again. After about half a dozen tries at

this, she stayed sitting up. She's start to list to port or starbord and I'd

show her a full spoon and she'd right herself and get her food. She'd put her

hands on the floor in front of her and sit like a dog and I'd show her the spoon

and say, " Abbie, sit up, " and she'd take her hands off the floor and straighten

her back and open her mouth and get her food. Eventually she sat for about 15-20

minutes, since she'd apparently figured out I wouldn't give her any food unless

she was sitting up. I showed her parents when they came to get her and they were

floored. Abbie is sitting!!! She already could, she just didn't know she could,

or didn't see why she should, but now she is sitting.

Yayyyyy, Abbie!!!!
