Hello Duffy,

I think that heart problems are fairly common in cats; I lost one to congestive heart failure. I wish your little kitty the best and hopefully his cardiac problem will be easily treated.

Good luck.....

Pardon me, while I lump a couple subjects together... so you will only have to open a single page.Who woulda thought? It can not be hereditary... but discovered this morning that my cat,Rascal, suffers from a faulty heart rhythm. Took him into the vet, fearing he was suffering from a bowel blockage.. because his litter boxhas not been used for a several days and there's no sign of his cat-pooelsewhere in the house. After the vet put down her stethoscope... shesaid Rascal has an arrhythmia! She ran an EKG and sent it to the veternary-heart docs in Gainesville atthe University of Florida. In a day filled with irony... the life of myfuzzy little feline furball depends on a team of Gators! No resultsback yet... so not sure how we will deal with this, but I am as worriedas a daddy with an ailing son.I am sure my cardiac problems are not contagious... but sure is a wierd coincidence.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~On the ZapperBBS... That happened here, in reverse. In June of 1995, my seemingly healthy 4 year old cat was found dead in the neighbor's yard. I took him in for a necropsy (cat autopsy), and it was determined that he had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy . In June 1996, Tom was in the cardiologist office, being told he had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

Best wishes to your cat. I am a cat lover.

Duff, On our way to NC for Christmas my beloved little cat, Zoe, just keeled over and died. She was five years old and healthy, or at least her vet visits had not turned up anything. Just before she died she made the most horrible sound I have ever heard come from an animal (and I have had everything from guppies to a horse)and that is when we found her. After the shock had somewhat numbed I managed to get onto the Cornell University website for their Feline Health Center, plugged in "sudden death" and there was a condition that has to do with arrhythmia's and that cats usually do not survive after five years if undiagnosed. It hit me one day later that I too had suffered sudden cardiac death back in 2002 and Zoe helped nurse me back to life. I am still absolutely distraught over Zoe. She was the funniest little cat I have ever had, and we were inseparable. Missing her is a physical pain every day, so I pray

that you have caught Rascal in time if this should be the same thing. Best of luck to both of you! When I first got sick my cat was diagnosed with a

heart murmur. The vet said she found it more than

coicidental that pets often have the same illness as

their owners.

I too am a cat lover -- my sympathies to you, Cheeky and to Becca... I have nursed my cats through feline leukemia virus and other things. It is hard. I have cats all of my 48 years. Some of them have lived more than 15 years!

:

My cats suffer from purr-necious newmeownia.

From California where I am barred from making any cat jokes.
