Guest guest
alec has a rash all over his chest. i spoke to the dr and it sounds like an allergic reaction to something, so he suggested that i give alec benedryl. well, i noticed how much calmer alec is on the benedryl. his teacher told me that he is so much more willing to try new things and is much quieter in the classroom. he is alert and not obviously drowsy am i on to something??? has any one noticed anything like this? what do you think? Guest guest
Lori, I gave benedryl once to see if that would calm him down (some doctors do prescribe this for that reason). He didnt' calm down and after 6 hours, he crashed. If I take benedryl, I'm out in 15 minutes. rash, benedryl, and a calmer child alec has a rash all over his chest. i spoke to the dr and it sounds like an allergic reaction to something, so he suggested that i give alec benedryl. well, i noticed how much calmer alec is on the benedryl. his teacher told me that he is so much more willing to try new things and is much quieter in the classroom. he is alert and not obviously drowsy am i on to something??? has any one noticed anything like this? what do you think? Some people will take sleeping pills and be hyped up instead of relaxed. It is a wierd thing. Loree
Guest guest
is out like a light with Benadryl. So is Mike. I get so wound up, my mind feels like it is spinning. I can't concentrate on a single thought for more than a minute. I get very jittery, can't hold my hand still. It is a very scary feeling for me, and I have never tried it again. Guest guest
I've thought about this post for a while. Many years ago, I watched a news magazine program (60 minutes or something) about children with behavioral disorders. One boy was so totally out of control his parents were at their wits end. Through many tests, it was discovered that the boy was allergic to citrus. Instead of breaking out in hives or sneezing, his little body responded with tantrums and inability to control impulses. Perhaps Benadryl, a product that blocks histimins, can ease such behavior in a child whose symptoms are less drastic. Perhaps your child has a mild allergy to something and responds with agitation. The rash is probably not related but yet another reaction to another stimulus. But the benadryl helped the reactions to both stimuli. Just a thought. I have found that my oldest child (12 and not ds) gets rather goofy with any sort of nuts in his diet. He gets antsy, repeats annoying actions and talks insesantly. That may not be the only trigger but that is one that we seem to have identified. Perhaps I should try Benadryl next time. Peace,

On another list I'm on are several children who have an allergy or sensitivity to food dyes (red #40 in particular) and it shows up in their behaviour. The food dyes are so ubiquitous and perceived to be harmless that the medical community doesn't look at this as a cause of behavioural problems. > Perhaps Benadryl, a product that blocks histimins, can ease such > behavior in a child whose symptoms are less drastic. Guest guest
My MIL is the same way - she can't take benedryl for the same reason. I did find out that a triple dose (ordered by a doctor) has the same effect as viagra has on men (for me and not why I was told to triple the dose!). And no, I don't take benedryl in triple doses anymore - just one time when I had hives that lasted for three weeks and steroids (pills, shots and IV dosages) did not work. rash, benedryl, and a calmer child > > > > > > alec has a rash all over his chest. i spoke to the dr and it sounds > like an > > allergic reaction to something, so he suggested that i give alec > benedryl. > > well, i noticed how much calmer alec is on the benedryl. his teacher > told me > > that he is so much more willing to try new things and is much quieter in > the > > classroom. he is alert and not obviously drowsy am i on to something??? > has any > > one noticed anything like this? what do you think? > > > > > > Lori mom to Alec (11DS) and le (15-teenager) > > > > > >
