Going back to school tomorrow is a good thing, away from the kitchen lol Talking about carbs, Sara's father and I were on Atkins soooo carbs were hard to find here and Sara ate healthier snacks. I did make pasta for her and her sister but meat and veggies were popular meals. Guest guest
Jasmine isn't that picky. She eats just about anything!!! And that's the problem-she wants to eat constantly, like some of the others on this loop. She wants to sit in front of the tv or comp and eat and watch. I have to force her to stop eating and go play in her room to get her to stop. I don't know what to do. She has always been rather small and petite, but now at 12 she is rather overweight and her belly just keeps getting bigger! I have always battled with my own weight, so I thought maybe it was a combination of the Downs and my matabolism. A " huge " combination! Any suggestions would be appreciated. I try to get her mind on other things, and offer her healthy snacks when she does snack, and we have healthy meals. I just have to keep a close eye on her or she will be eating all the time. Well, I made it sound like Mav was pickier than he is. What is is is that he has tactile issues so certain things trigger his BARF button and he gags on them. The texture of pasta or cottage cheese. He eats a pretty balanced diet, just a repetitive one... ¸...¸ __/ /\____ ____ ,·´º o`·,/__/ _/\_ //____/\ ```)¨(´´´ | | | | | | | || |l±±±± | ¸,.-·²°´ ¸,.-·~·~·-.,¸ `°²·-. :º° As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. 24:
Guest guest
won't eat pasta or rice either due to the texture. Always makes him gag. Whew! I thought he was the only kid in America that doesn't like pasta! Jackie, Mom to 16ds, 13, and Bradley
Guest guest
, age 15 as of today, measures in at 5 ft tall and 100lbs of pure muscle. He eats constantly and moves just as much. He also has tactile issues with some foods but pasta isn't one of them. When I managed a group home and we had kids who were broadening out during puberty the general advice was to increase their activity in addition to watching their eating. Guest guest
will be seven tomorrow. He is 46 lbs, and is 3' 5 1/4 " high. He seems chunky compared to the rest of my boys. We can't button any of his jeans anymore, and have him in sweats and running outfits mostly! I have to get to my sewing machine and make him some nice pants to wear. Anything that would fit him in his stomach would be six inches to long on his legs. Roni

Guest guest
Roni, I am in the same situation as you are. wears mostly sweats. The teachers don't understand that he can't wear regular pants for the same reason as your . It is really a problem. Becky R Roni wrote: > will be seven tomorrow. Guest guest
> I have to get to my sewing machine and make him some nice pants to wear. > Anything that would fit him in his stomach would be six inches to long on his legs. I have a stack of pants (size 6x) that have elastic waists that fit 's belly, but are too long. Some, like jeans are easily cuffed, but the sweats and leggings all need to be hemmed (girls no longer have elastic legs..... too bad that went out of style, LOL). Plus, most things are flared these days, making them a double pain to hem! Anyway, is eating more than usual these days, so I know a growth spurt up is coming. In fact, I'm sure it will be as soon as I break down and hem the stack of pants :-) Its hard to pick a length though, because when things are hiked up over the belly, they will still drag when they slip down to ride under the belly. Oh well, she's getting a little better about pulling her pants up (when reminded :-) Dresses are a better fit, but they spend most of their time over her head (especially at circle time), so the teacher suggested that she wear shorts under a dress..... Shorts are perfect, but even here in So Cal., it's still too cool to wear shorts these days. I just checked and she is 46 inches (3'10 " ), 50 pounds. She appears to be average build, but the big belly (which I have attributed thusfar to low muscle tone) and the being short (actually, I think she's reasonably tall for a girl with DS) will probably keep her from being a supermodel (LOL). My oldest (non-DS), is very hard to fit as well...... at age 8 1/2, she is 4'8 " and is having to wear a size 12 jeans (for length)....... she wears lots of belts :-) I now know who clothes are made for...... my youngest has pretty much been 50% ht and 50% weight on the doctor's charts all her life, and her clothes have always fit perfectly. Too bad the hand-me-downs she gets have been taken in or shortened :-) , mom to (8), (6 in 8 days, DS), and (4)
Guest guest
On the sweats, why not just put a casing in, insert elastic and make them last even longer!
