Allergic Reaction to ICD

Hi Everyone,

I had my ICD implanted almost a year ago (1/27/06) and have had a problem with itching around the incision and the entire site. My cardiologist looked and said it had nothing to do with the surgery/implant (he was wrong). The itching, which is often intense, has continued up to this day!

My primary doctor gave me an ointment to use twice a day and a script for Hydroxyzine HCL (anti-itch pills) and told me I should see a dermatologist and possibly get some sort of steroid injections. When I saw a dermatologist, he said he would not touch it with a needle and did not want to prescribe topical steroids for long-term use because they make will make the skin thin. The only solution he could see was the removal of the ICD, which is causing the problem, and of course he does not suggest doing that. He suggested that I call the manufacturer of the ICD.

I don't know what to do. Has anyone else had a problem like this with their implant??

Thanks,

Sydney
