Hi Sydney: What type of ICD do you have? I have a Saint Jude. I had a medtronic before but it was too big for me for almost 3 years now I have a saint jude one and was implanted in 2001 with medtroic and implanted with saint jude in 2004. I still have some itching and sometimes it hurts as well. My cardiologist said it was from the scar tissue. hope you get to the bottom of your problem. Take Care LeahSydney <autumnmoon.one@...> wrote: Hi Everyone, I had my ICD implanted almost a year ago (1/27/06) and have had a problem with itching around the incision and the entire site. My cardiologist looked and said it had nothing to do with the surgery/implant (he was wrong). The itching, which is often intense, has continued up to this day! My primary doctor gave me an ointment to use twice a day and a script for Hydroxyzine HCL (anti-itch pills) and told me I should see a dermatologist and possibly get some sort of steroid injections. When I saw a dermatologist, he said he would not touch it with a needle and did not want to prescribe topical steroids for long-term use because they make will make the skin thin. The only solution he could see

was the removal of the ICD, which is causing the problem, and of course he does not suggest doing that. He suggested that I call the manufacturer of the ICD. I don't know what to do. Has anyone else had a problem like this with their implant?? Thanks, Sydney

Hi Leah,

I have a Medtronic (implanted 1/27/06). I, like you, have some discomfort sometimes as well. But -- it is the itching that is the main problem. I brake out in little, tiny bumps that itch like mad!

Hi Sydney: I too have Medtronic put in June of 05. I had severe

itching for the first year, I was almost " digging " a sore but has

finally subsided with time. Nomore itching, my daughter had hers

done just this past August and going through same thing. I think it

takes a good year for all pulling pains, itching to subside, hope

this helps, not good, but hopefully yours will go away soon too.

Now I don't even notice it's there. I am allergic to almost

everything, can't wear yellow gold and white gold even irritates me,

just not as quickly. All nickel plated stuff is out too. I don't

know what casing is made of, probably surgical steel, but for the

price, surely diamonds or something, huh?
