Guest guest
Hey Dirk; Your subject line - lets us know you are serious. Yes, you do have to get to know us. But if you have serious concerns, questions or problems, you will get serious help, if we can give it - You know it all depends on our experiences as we are not making a living in the medical field. That said - What can we help you with Dirk? ~guin P.S. Bill always tries to keep things on the lighter side and keep us living longer with his humor. I'm Concerned OK, please, someone, clue me in. I never frequented "this side" of the Zapper forum, so I don't know the etiquette. How am I to respond if I post a serious question and I get a smart-ass BS reply? I know what my initial reaction would be: "What a jerk! To Hell with coming here looking for advice, friendship, and information!"I've seen several of these kinds of replies. Is it because I'm new and don't know all the players, and how they post? Do I just laugh, and pass it off as someone's usual high-jinks?Thanks for any feedback!Dirk
Guest guest
Ever person is different. I am like you and you never know what will come out of my mouth, snicker. The same with each web side or side. This really is a close family and I am surprised if you did get a BS remark. I find this side more of a family and more open to questions than the BBS. The BBS I find I can say how I really feel. On this side I find I hold back some as more new people come here first and I do not want to scare them. Especialy as of late I find I will delete what I used to answer. I am not ignoring but I feel I can't open up like I used to. One of these days (weeks, months whenever) I will start getting back to what most people call normal, but for those who know me I am far from normal. I'm proud of being a smart-ass, because it's the only way anyone will ever call me smart. As for the BS it's part of a defense mechanism. Physical health deteriorates to the point where the only medical news you hear is negative, and the physical limits take an emotional and mental toll on daily life. All I ask is that you understand the smart asses of the world are often spouting serious stuff wrapped in the foolishness and friviloty that normally is not found in that setting. And their BS is the vehicle available to take them away from places where they would rather not dwell. %%% This forum is full of wise advice, warm friendship and valuable information. Guest guest
Bill, "Dirknzippy" has a point. It is time we rained you in once and for all with some editing. Therefore I will magnanimously volunteer my valuable time and efforts. 1) Move paragraph 3 to position of paragraph 1. 2) Leave the rest just the way it is. Perhaps Dirknzippy believes that, rather than humor, you should learn to use more words in your posting that might offend others as being borderline obscene. You rarely do this. For example, "smart ass BS" manages to squeeze two off color comments into four words, if you count BS as two words. If a person is going to throw stones, he should not own a glass hot air balloon. If "Dirknzippy" comes here for sympathy, he will get it. If he comes here for information, he will get it. And should he need to smile or laugh, so as to put his troubles into proper perspective, he will get that too. As for you Bill, don't ever change.......the possibilities are terrifying. Guest guest
I have to agree that humor is what gets me through the day. 2005 was my bad year having spent 28 nights in the hospital mostly because I have an artificial aortic valve and am on a blood thinner and most procedures require a longer stay than most heart patients. I can remember one night while I was talking to my wife on the phone a nurse came in to give me a shot. She said she was just going to give me a shot and to keep talking. I replied, “if you are giving it to me it won’t show up on my bill”. To which she dropped the syringe and had to go get another dose of insulin. I wonder if I got charged for both dozes? I like to think that my “good morning”, “thank-you” mixed with lots of humor made the life of the medical folks a little more tolerable and made me feel good even if being told to lay still after a visit to the Cat Lab is one of the hardest things to do. My problem is I am the only one who thinks I am funny but maybe I am helping someone get to heaven by putting up with my groaners. Guest guest
Wow! Thanks for the immediate and positive feedback! I really do appreciate it. I'm going to lurk a while longer, while I get to know the players on this list. Unfortunately, for most of my early youth, I was on the ugly and cruel butt end of teasing and practical jokes. It's taken me years to be less sensitive about teasing -- I try to bottle up my initial feelings and grin and bear it. (Which is not the same as " grinning and baring it " which I used to do in some of the more notorious bars here and elsewhere, which sometimes got me some free drinks, and sometimes got me kicked out...) I do try to use humor myself, Bill -- only it's usually directed at myself. So I'm not totally humorless! Take care y'all! Dirk'n'Zippy...let's see now, if we lie on our back and prop our legs up against the wall, and using both feet and both hands, maybe, just MAYBE, we can pull that beam out of our own eye...ugh...ugh...ugh... Guest guest
When I first started on the Zaplist, I was provoked when I would ask a serious question, or voiced a concern, and got a less than serious answer. One reason was that instead of answering my question, it seemed that everyone was busy praising the humor and the cleverness of the writer. After the backslapping, finally somebody would get down to business, and answer. Most of us know each other well enough now to respond in an appropriate way. But you all know as well as I do that when you are in the grip of that highly charged emotional medical situation, you need help of all sorts, and you want to be taken seriously immediately. Sometimes a post comes back sounding like one is being patronized by one's SOB doctor, and it hits the wrong way. And there are days when something said offends when it might not the next. There is not one of us that should not be here either posting or just visiting. So bear with us all.
