Guest guest
Have you read the " Aids and Tips " file? Lots of suggestions in there. Instead of going out in the cold, there's strength training or yoga. I use a yoga tape that I can fit into my life when the spirit moves me. on 2/22/2006 3:22 PM, Ed Vogel at ed_vogel@... wrote: I have been adjusting a CRON diet for about six weeks and have had three episodes of severe evening cravings. A brisk walk almost does it for me but I am interested in other options when it is bitter cold and 10 pm. Ed V.

Guest guest
Ed, It is hard to give you advice without knowing your physical characteristics, your level of activity, and your current caloric intake. From the information that you provide, it is impossible to tell if the reason for your cravings is that you are starving yourself. Try using the CR calculator: http://www.scientificpsychic.com/health/cron1.html As a beginner, you should not attempt more than 10% CR to give your body a chance to adjust to lower calorie levels. Percent CR is calculated relative to a BMI of 22, so if you are currently overweight, 10% CR will actually feel like a greater level of restriction. You can stay at that level until your weight stabilizes and you have learned how to select a varied, nutrient-dense diet that meets 100% of your daily requirements (protein, essential fats, vitamins, fiber). The most satiating foods are generally high in protein. You may try half a glass of milk, a slice of low-fat mozzarella, hummus on a pita chip, or some almonds. CR is a way of life. You should tailor it to your needs, but not make it too hard on yourself by over-restricting. Most of the benefits of CR come from avoiding (or eliminating) obesity and getting your BMI in the 21 to 22 range. Guest guest
Ed: You might consider changing your eating patterns to include a late supper, as is done in Europe, especially Spain. Of course, the usual rules of a modest caloric intake apply, both to the late night repast and your overall dietary habits. We usually dine at 8-9 PM, two hours before bed. A study several years ago seemed to explode the myth that calories consumed late at night were any more " toxic " than those consumed at anytime during the day. Maybe you have what psychaitrists call " night-time eating syndrome " (they're always inventing syndromes and diseases). See: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2006/01/060101154553.htm One possible prescription: " Recent studies have found the antidepressant setraline (Zoloft®) to significantly improve symptoms of night eating syndrome, including nocturnal ingestion and evening hyperphagia. " I'd go for the late meal. Mike > > I have been adjusting a CRON diet for about six weeks and have had > three episodes of severe evening cravings. Then eat the remainder some time before you would experience the cravings - say at least half an hour or an hour before.
