I have a Medtronic device. I have to do this scan at 12:30 PM today, so I still have not done yet. After my implant I received the machine in the mail. Came along with instructions. Also, they showed me how to do it at the doctors office too. After I complete my first scan and all goes well I will email about it. I thought that everyone had this process to go through. Anyone else out there would like to share?

I didn't know that about the co pay, and why does that not surprise me. LOL I guess I will find out. My monitor came to me automatically. I didn't have to get the machine myself. I don't know if that makes any difference in the insurance.

How are you doing?

I have also been to the doc's office to get a scanning done too. It is suppose to be alternated, 3 months I see the doc and have it scanned and then the next 3 months I do it from home.

I just did it at 12:30. Everything went smooth on my end. Then I am suppose to call and ask if it went through. I call and get the tech's voice mail letting me know her hours and days in. Today is her day in but til 12:00 PM then why did they ask me to send the scan at 12:30 PM. LOL So I left a message to get back to me and if I don't hear back in a reasonable amount of time I will call them again.

Let you know the update on this situation when I have more news. LOL

Take care and be well

I will definitely ask about what they are checking. I am sure its more than a battery check, and if I have had any shocks I will and would have known about it. I was told by my doctors that I will know if the device goes off and read many times of it happening to people on here. But I am definitely asking about what it is checking from home. Also, this monitor that I use is specifically designed for me and the kind of device that was implanted in me. I don't think they needed all that info for a battery check. Will get back to you on what I find out. Thanks for the info.

Take care

My husband had one of those, but he died just 2 weeks after he got it. It's called a Guidant Latitude. We hooked it up in the bedroom, it connects to electricity and telephone lines. It's about the size of a cordless phone base. After we connected it, Tom sat on the edge of the bed, and about 30 seconds later, the machine said. "Thank you, your defibrillator has been scanned." I don't know if it continually monitors the defib, or does it on a schedule. As I said, he only had it 2 weeks.

Hi Toni-

I am 24 years old and have had my device since 02/06. I also have a

Medtronic device. About 2 months ago the Dr's suggested I get the

at home scanner so I did. I have not used it yet though but it

looks really handy and convenient. As far as insurance goes, my Dr

told me that everytime you scan your device, you pay your regular

copay as if you actually went into the Dr and had it done there. I

hope everyone has a great day!

Hi all, just got on here and see this stuff about

being checked from home. I was using Raytel cardic

services but cancelled it. Wheni went to my cardio doc

on Monday they told me that all these services do is

check the battery they cannot tell if you have had a

shock or much of anything else. My goodness i had

always thought that they could tell everything about

what was going on with my ICD guess not. So be sure

to ask the service if they do a complete check of your

ICD or pacer or if allthey do is just check the

battery. Sincerely

Toni, I am so glad it went well for you. And sounds like you won't have problems either. I guess it is just a matter of how the different companies work out their devices. Hi Toni, yes thats what i thought also that the

machine would scan the whole unit not just the

battery. I have a St Judes ICD and when i was at the

doc on Moday the St Jude tech was there and that is

what she told me that all the machine at home does is

scan the battery, not sure if i believe her or not. I

would think that a company in ordetr to make money

would do more than just scan the dog gone battery.

What servie is going to do your scan from home ? I

wish you and all out there who have these units and

their family's the very best.

Let us know how it goes. I just got my Medtronic "sending device" today from UPS. Haven't even opened it yet. I did notice the doctor will be charging the same as for an office visit, including co-pay.

If insurance does not pay for the reader, how much (approximstely) will it cost us? My gas cost is about

$15 a trip.

From California where I believe an AICD remote sensor listening to it, making adjustments and doing a report. iN essence the three R's: Read it; Right it; (W)rit-my-tick(er)-up.

Thanks, Toni,

My husband died on May 15th. He was on the heart/kidney transplant waiting list. In October, his kidneys were getting worse, and more emphasis was put on finding a kidney donor, preferrrably a live donor. His brother was a perfect match, but there's so many details and appointments and tests he had to go through, all so time consuming. His brother had one last appointment to go to, before surgery would happen, and that appointment was scheduled for May 16th. :*(

Thanks Becca., Looking back now, had I known, which of course I didn't, I would have been more persistent, "Come on, let's get going with these appointments, NOW!!" I didn't realize how sick he was, nor did he. 2 minutes before he died, he was sitting on the couch talking to the paramedics, his vitals were fine, but he was short of breath.

Hi Laurie,

I am so glad that everything worked out for your son. As you know I did my first scan from home yesterday. The tech called me this morning to tell me that it went through fine. The doctor has to check it, but what she can see everything seems alright. It does check for all events since the last time it was scanned, which in this case was 3 months ago. I have an appointment to see the doctor in 3 months. then after that I should use the scanning device the 3 months after that. we are going to alternate. It was very easy to do from home. I felt it was faster than when it was done in the doctors office.

I think it was that mentioned it just was checking the battery. And the tech said that if you just have a pacemaker that would be done. But I have a defibrillator/pacemaker. I think it is great that we all here at the Zap can communicate all of this information. It helps alot.

I hope that everyone is doing fine today. Take Care fellow zappers.

I would ask the doctor that implanted the ICD for that information. I never even asked for it, it just came in the mail after about a month after the procedure.

Let me know what you find out.

Wow Cheeky,

How sad that he was so close to getting what he needed to keep going but just not soon enough. I hope you have family and friends to help you thru. You also have a family of support here at the Zaplist. I for one will be thinking about you and hoping all is well as you learn to live with your loss.

Thanks, Toni,

Hi, We just got back from vacation and I was catching up on the emails. My son has a Medtronic AICD, and we now have the Patient CareLInk System also from Medtronic. Last year while on vaction in Mammoth Lakes California, my son's AICD fired 8 time to bring his heart rhythym back to normal. We immediately went to the small hospital there so he could be checked...but they did not have any type of system other than an EKG machine to find out what was going on. At that time, my sons heart rate was back to normal, and they were unable to see why the AICD had fired. Anyway to make a long story short, we were airlifted to Children's, 800 miles away only to find that the AICD fired appropriately and he was ok. I begged the Hospital to provide us with a unit that we could use to transmit info, and we are the first patients to get one...they gave us the CareLink System. We were told that the unit will send all vital

info including shocks to the Dr. over the phone. We also live about 2 hours from Children's so they felt this system was needed for us. Fortunately, we have not had to use it again, but it is a blessing to have with us at all times. We do have to pay a Co-Pay for info sent, but it will surely be cheaper than the 40,000 we spent for life flight, 2 ambulence rides and a hospital stay...not including the STRESS!!
