Boston is applying EDF casting to young patients (they are probably saying

Risser due to ins. coding)...Although, I think they are also giving a lot

of cast breaks? ~And, Im not sure if parents have easy access to treating

docs and thorough follow-up post op...?

Parents going to Boston will have a better idea of whats going on there:)

Boston parents, please update when you can.

Hello,

I am sorry I am just answering to this post now, but I hope I can give you somewhat useful info. I can't say anything about Shriners Boston since my daughter is being treated in Boston Children's Hospital. She's been Mehta casted for seven month already (she is now 2 years and two month old). is right that on paper they call it Risser, but it is for insurance purposes ( I asked about it because I was confused the first time I saw the paperwork). As for the brakes, she usually gets her cast removed on Tuesday afternoon and the new one goes on Thursday morning. I am not sure how many days out of cast is considered a brake.

Thanks for the info on Boston, Ventsi! I didnt realize there was a

Shriners in Boston! It must be for burn care.

In regards to cast breaks...Im just guessing here, so please correct me if

Im wrong, but I think they give kids who are not being cured and using

casting as a delay tactic prior to surgery longer cast breaks...And~

kiddos that have a good shot a complete resolution get only a day or two

cast break. This is how its done at most ET Mehta Casting centers with

experience and Im pretty sure Boston is doing the same.

Hi ,

I think you are right about the brakes. Our goal, and even more importantly, our doctor's goal is a complete resolution for our daughter. Of course I understand and am prepared that you can not 100% predict the outcom, but as long as the doctor is aiming at complete cure I am happy. >>> From: heather@... <heather@...>> Subject: Re: Re: Boston> infantile scoliosis treatment > Date: Wednesday, July 25, 2012, 8:15 AM>>>> Â >>>> Boston is applying EDF casting to young patients (they are probably saying> Risser due to ins. coding)...Although, I think they are also giving a lot> of cast breaks? ~And, Im not sure if parents have easy access to treating> docs and thorough follow-up post op...?> Parents going to Boston will have a better idea of whats going on

Hey! Just reading these posts now because I saw "Boston". We just had Olivia's first cast put on at Children's in Boston and I can't say enough positives about the whole process. It is Mehta casting and there are no breaks. Cast comes off Monday, new cast Tuesday, unless there are skin issues and at that the longest break may be a week depending on the severity of the skin problems. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. I've also written down everything in great detail in my blog. Hope this helps!> >>>> >>> I am the mother of a 10 1/2 month old boy named Hunter who was> >>> diagnosed> >>> with progressive infantile scoliosis at 9 months. Sounds like you and the doc have the same goal for cast treatment and that

is KEY in treating PIS effectively. Good job momma!
