Guest guest
I didn't have an EPS study before the implantation of my ICD(pacemaker and defibrillator) because I got mine because of heart failure. However I think they did one after I was asleep. My device is under my muscle and I think they do that for stability etc. I was told that some folks cant have one in the shoulder but must have in in the abdomen but that this is rare. Your doctor or his nurse surely will discuss this with you before they do it. Good luck! Brenta EPS Study and scared!!! Hi I am going for an EPS Study on the 25th of April. I am very scared and would like to hear from you that have experienced this and how terrible is it. I am also wondering about if I have to have the implant is it better to have it under the muscle. Please I am just starting my journey through this and appreciate any information you can share.
Guest guest
Hi~ I had my eps study in 2001. You really shouldn't worry. Trust me I know it's scary...but you have got to remember you are in a controlled environment and the Doctor is there so nothing can get out of control. It's a little uncomfortable when they are probing around, but they should give you plenty of relaxing meds. Now I would like to say that if they have to shock you~it probably will be uncomfortable but it's only for a few minutes. Waiting and anticipating is the hardest part. Don't worry you will be fine and just remember you're in good hands! d200hughes <d200hughes@...> wrote: Hi I am going for an EPS Study on the 25th of April. Guest guest
Assuming you mean an EP study? Mine was not problem as far as pain/etc. goes, the room they do catheterizations in is normally very chilly, and you have to get leads and pads of all types stuck all over you, but once I was all prepped, the last thing I remembered before waking up in my room after it was one of the nurses saying she was going to give me some 'happy juice' and I was out. I ended up needing an ICD, and had to stay in the hospital for 4 days until they had an opening to implant the ICD, because my EP said it was too risky to send me home for the weekend. Normally you would get out the next morning or possibly even later the same day if nothing is wrong though. The only thing that really bothered me about it other than the discomfort/bruising at the cath sites, was the potassium drip they had in my arm all night. It ended up irritating my arm to the extent that my skin turned red and itchy and they had to switch my IV site due to the irritation/swelling. Guest guest
Hi Thanks for your reply I was wanting to ask you where your ICD was implanted and do you see it. I am a very vain female and wanting to have it under the muscle but my EP doesn't like to do them that way. Thanks again for the info. <j_odonnell4@...> wrote: Assuming you mean an EP study? Guest guest
It shows only slightly and doesn't seem to move. As far as comfort re a bra, I'd suggest getting some wider cushioned strap bras at first. Now it doesn't seem to make much difference. Good luck! Brenta EPS Study and scared!!! Guest guest
I still do not like the looks of the ICD implanted two moths ago. MY EP points out that I would be dead without it. Not much of a option if you need it. Look bad and fill 20 years younger or be dead. Pete -----Original Message----- Hi and thanks for the reply I am very scared but you made me feel better.
