Guest guest
Sure a, 50 bpm setting is if my heart goes below 50 beats per minute then my icd starts pacing me at 60 beats per minute. That is for bradycardia(slow heart beat). For Tachycardia(fast heart beat) if my heartbeat goes above 145 beats per minute my ICD takes over and paces me at a faster beat 10 times. Machine first senses irregular or a very fast rhythm starts counting seconds, if my hear beat is above 145 beats per minute for more than 10 seconds, first it tries to pace me see if my heart goes back to regular rhythm, if not after pacing me 10 time It cadioverts(shocks me ) at 5.5 Joules (its is an energy unit) then waits if i went back to normal rhythm if not it shock me two more times at 5.5 joules then if i am still in tachycardia then it shocks me at 14 joules 3 times then if nothing it shocks me at 31 joules. that is one of the settings, If my heart goes above 185 beats per minute, for ten seconds it tries to pace me 5 times and it my heart still is not normal then same thing 5.5 joules 3 times then 14 joules 3 times then 31 joules. Last setting is if my heart goes into fibrillation at 210 beats per minute then i get 31 joules shocks until it is normal or somebody gives me some meds or they stop the machine i think, it was never that bad but i have got shock a lot 5 years ago, since may 2001 nothing thank god.(knock on wood). I hope this was clearer. What kind of ICD do you have? TURKjfrow2 <jfrow2@...> wrote: > > Hello a: > Here is my settings. Guest guest
Goodness, you really know your stuff too! Thanks for putting it all into perspective for me. Is it normally that I usually only feel 1 thump, even though it feels pretty pronounced and deep. Is that still ATP? Also, will this show up on my ICD history? That's the main thing - I want to the doctors to see what I'm going through and not just my word, ya know? Thanks for all your help - and yes, I will tell my doctor about my symptoms. Thanks, a, 25, in VAsumnerred <redsumner@...> wrote: Sounds like you are experiencing Anti-tachycardia pacing (ATP), this is the pacing that slows down (Hopefully) a rapid heart rate such as V-Tac.This will give you thumps that don't hurt that are in rapid succession.Bradycardia pacing is just the opposite as ATP pacing, if your heart is beating to slowly it will "Jump start" your heart. This some persons feel (Me) and others do not feel it. The main difference is Bradycardia pacing will not give you a bunch of thumps like a drum.It will thump a bit and in a second or two will thump again. You may need med adjustments or not.If you are being taken out of a lethal arrhythmia without a shock, that is a real good thing! If the ATP does not take you out of the rapid heart beat then you will be shocked. Cardioversion or defibrillation both hurt the same in my 12 years of experience even though the Cardioversion is using much less Joules of power.I hope this helps. You should notify your Dr. about this as only they know what is acceptable for your condition.Good luck! 43 in Maine> > i feel it like a thump or a flick in my chest everytime i'm > paced for slow heart rate it is more commen thin you might think > although it dont hurt it can get annoying after a while ! i have > read alopt of places that you dont feel slow heart rate paceing > but i think some do ! > > > > stacie,22> > > >> > > Also, Tink, I have the following settings on my ICD: bradycardia > pacing (pacemaker setting), Anti-tachycardia pacing (ATP), > Cardioversion (low to medium shocks), and finally Defibrillation > (the big one!). Guest guest
Hello Group, I enjoy reading all the interesting posts loaded with information. This is my second post. I have a question. My Icd is 5 years old. I am getting the battery replaced in a couple of weeks. I was wondering~do I have a say on what model I get next? When I asked my Doctor's office, they were unclear as to who decides what I get. Currently I have the Guidant 1861 recall unit. Was wondering if any of you have gone through this before and if so what you've found out. I am really nervous about this procedure. Anything would be appreciated. Guest guest
Hello Vee:I had a gudant 1861 and they just changed mine to Guidant T-175 and i am very happy with it. The size is about the same if not a little smaller. My procedure went really easy. No complaints yet (knock wood). Good luck with your procedure. Don't be afraid to take a proactive role with your heart and ICD after all it is your life. Guest guest
I had a recalled Guidant 1861 that was replaced BEFORE the recall. The EP chose a Biotronik. Seems to be working pretty well. The Guidant did a good job until the battery failed after 3 years. You can always ASK the doctor about the different units available. The replacement was much easier than the first implant. Recovery time was much quicker as well. Much less pain and discomfort. Mike Re: Re: Thump in Chest Hello Group, I enjoy reading all the interesting posts loaded with information. Could you explain your settings to someone who is not familiar with all the terms? My ICD is a Medtronics, are the settings called the same thing as with your unit? Thanks, New Messenger with Voice. Thank you in advance for your help!a <paula_butler25@...> wrote: Cool, Thanks!TURK <goturk1@...> wrote: we have the same one. go to this page you will learn a lot. Guest guest
Thank you for the info. Appreciate it. Have a great day!
