Hi ,

I've been having problems with edema and I also get it in my abdomen and yes, I feel miserable when I have it. I'm nauseated, don't feel like eating, and tired and weak. I also take zoloft and it does help. My cardiologist says that's what it is but my family doctor doesn't seem to think I can have fluid in my abdomen. It always starts in my legs and then to abdomen and sometimes lungs. I didn't use to take lasix often but have had to start taking it daily recently. I just hope it doesn't mean my heart is getting worse.

The extra fluid is making your heart work

harder. If you are having difficulty w/ concentration, either your electrolytes

are out of whack or you aren’t profusing as you should & your brain

isn’t getting the oxygen it needs. Did you tell him what was going on

when you called for an appt? as quickly as heart failure pt can decompensate—2

weeks isn’t acceptable. I’d say the ER is in order if he won’t

see you in a timelier manner.

If he has given you parameters of

increasing your diuretics when you gain xxx amount of pounds & you’ve

done that—w/o improvement-it needs to be addressed now not in 2 weeks.

Are you watching your salt intake? If your diuretics were increased, the electrolytes

may be out of kilter if the Lasix only was increased—your losing

potassium—becomes a fine balancing act for the kidneys.

Good luck to you & keep us posted

Edema problems.

Hi,

Just wondered if any of you guys

out there had experienced with swelling of the abdomen and the resultant misery

it causes. I can't get to see my cardiologist for another 2 weeks. At the

moment I am on Lasix twice a day and Inspra twice a day. Suffering paranoia

about anything I eat or drink. My weight has leveled off about 10 lbs above

normal.

I had a ICD fitted 3 years ago and

have been doing great until recently. Found Zoloft helped.lol. So I really

shouldn't complain.

Sorry this post is a bit garbled as

this problem is making it very hard to concentrate.

Kind regards,

Parish

Be extremely careful of the loss of Potassium......my body dumped my potassium once and it is the reason that I had a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (luckily I was already in the hospital at the time) and I also developed Long QT as a result.
