Thanks, Logan,

Agree with your observation, because there are CRONies who do a high fat and swear by it because of BG problems. They don't post much but they're out there.

In any case, they don't do a LOT of kcals (this is a low cal group), so I think it's possible to do a high fat diet IF it's OTO of 1800 kcals. They would simply burn it daily.

I can't do Atkin's, but then I'm not a high BG, either.

Regards.

We just don't have the data rightnow to > know which is the best approach. There is plenty of scientific evidence and it could becalled the "High Fiber, Moderate Lean Protein,Moderate Omega-3 Fat" diet. There's also plenty ofscientific evidence that a high saturated fat, highprotein diet that Atkins recommends is very unhealthylong-term.IMHO, the only reason Atkin works for some people isdue to the 25% average calorie loss due fromthermogenesis of protein. It seems to me to be allabout a food volume/satiety issue and high fiber dietworks just as well, if not better/safer. Logan

>> No argument with Jeff's ideas (tirade? ha) on Atkin's diet.

:)

As you know... I am all for the discussion of intelligent ideas. I get fustrated that intelligent people are so hoodwinked by the promotion of complete nonsense and quackery in the name of science. And, I am even more fustrated by those promoting it who abuse their credentials and the trust of the public who listen to them. And that every few months, someone thinks that have re invented CR-ON without giving credence to the ideas that came before and the proper amount of study and understanding of them.

Its amazing how many times Francesca has to remind someone to read the basic info and the beginner info that we are all clearly instructed to read when we first join.

I appreciated your input on Atkin's, BTW.

I didn't like Atkin's because I just couldn't shxx, and they never discussed that "feature" anywhere. I thought that was a significant factor.

But I felt the same about Sear's after doing a lot of review and even talking to people that did it and swore by it - I just couldn't figure out how to do it - too many errors in the book.

Often times people are "afraid" to attack someone with assumed prestige like Atkin's but as you might have discovered not I. I'm retired, they can't hurt me now, (except that medicare D plan. Maybe next year. ha.)

I run into many "anomalies" in stuff I read like I think it will be hard to save the polys in fish canned in an environment that softens fish bone. I don't care what the usda says, I'll have to run the test myself.

And that "pelleted" fish oil is different from bottled Cod liver oil.

And vit D ain't the same that I buy versus what they test.

And I can't take 500 mg vit C, Mr. ing.

And sun doesn't cause melanoma in most people.

But you can get warts from handling toads.

Regards.

caloric intake by around 50%.

I thought the prevailing view was that people tend to

UNDERestimate their caloric intake. For example, see:
