Reflection: Break the Habit

Researchers claim something quite disturbing about the human mind. Apparently, over 90 percent of the thoughts we have today are the exact same thoughts we had yesterday. That paints a picture of a society that's stuck in a rut, unable to find liberation in our minds or in our lives. Maybe it's time to change those old patterns of thinking. Instead of the constant stream of criticism and distracting "mind chatter," why not cultivate positive thoughts, thoughts that can help us continue to grow and change rather than stagnate and fester? Over the next few days, develop the awareness to notice which thoughts seem to reoccur again and again. Then consider breaking the habit and meditating on something new.
