Guest guest
First day of school tomorrow in NYC- the city of the big change. I'm not encouraged by all the changes- over 1 million kids and like 120,000 teachers with a total system wide change. There arent even districts anymore or a Board of Ed- its now the Dept of Ed. New position and new school for me- its been a bumpy road so far- more on that later. Already pine-ing for my kids and my time off spent with them- got to the beach with no lifeguards today and lost my glasses with the clip on sunglasses in the water- kinda rough by the riptide from Hurricaine Fabian in Bermuda. Its been tough too for me with all the planning i have to do for amanda's heading back- all her medical supplies and her new insulin pump and so much paper work and i know i wont be as around to make sure things are going as they should be. i know you guys will understand when i say how overwhelming it is at the beginning of the school year to send them off without us and to fend for themselves..... ~ Mom to 13 DS and Diabetes Type 1 and 9 NY

Tell me about it! I just got home from meeting Liam's new Kindergarten teachers, nurse, aid, assistant principal, etc. You'll relate to this , they didn't put his IEP info into the CAP system correctly and they never got a copy of his IEP from either district! Meanwhile the phone system is out at my home district's office (oh how convenient is that?) so it will be a while until we straighten everything out. I filled out 14 forms last night and they gave me more to fill out today. Things are a mess at the NYC Dept of Ed, but you've really got to hand it to the school professionals ( as opposed to the bureaucrats who shuffle paper) who are trying to do their jobs the best they can inspite of the chaos. I saw a lot of smiles today for the kids benefit even though I know how unsettled they must feel. Kathy, Liam's mom( 5)
Guest guest
Kathy, I'm sorry but I knew it would be that way, i just didnt want you to get discouraged in june. Last year it took till jan for everything to get in place and then amanda never ended up with PT cause i didnt have the strength to contract out. What will happen this year?????? I guess she'll just go to school and be like everyone else- i got home at 10 to 5 today- how can I do anything now? I am really thinking of quitting my coaching position- I'm gone too long and leaving the kids with practically strangers for too long- my son doesnt ever think i will do anything with his class. An old fav saying of mine " the bd of ed s*^%s! " (now its the dept of ed! LOL) ~ Mom to 13 DS and Diabetes Type 1 and 9 NY
