Guest guest
Hi folks: The following study was posted earlier, before it had been allocated a PMID number: " The effect on health of alternate day calorie restriction: Eating less and more than needed on alternate days prolongs life. " JB, Laub DR, S. It now has the PMID: 16529878, and I have added it to the 'Fundamental CR Studies' file. Perhaps the following comment in the abstract is, for a couple of reasons, especially interesting, " We believe widespread use of this pattern of eating could impact influenza epidemics and other communicable diseases by improving resistance to infection " . The first reason is, of course, that there may be a major, and possibly severe, flu epidemic in the not-too-distant future. Second, we do not at present have a long list of ways of improving immunity, while infections are listed among the top ten causes of death in humans as the immune system degrades with age. Of course we do not know whether the fluctuating caloric intake studied in this paper provides any better improvement in immunity than just straightforward every day CRON. Rodney.
