Guest guest
Joyce, What is you ejection fraction ??? What meds are you on ? Do you dring alchohol or caffine ? I had a suden cardiac arrest in May and got my ICD implanted. Shortly thereafter I was having A-fibs and palpitations. I greatly reduced my alchohol intake to a glass of wine a day and stopped drinking caffine. My doc put my on Verapimil and my a-fibs and palps were greatly reduced. Good luck, Phil > Hello everyone, If any one can help me My heart drs. want to do > either Av node ablation or atrial fibilution ablation. Guest guest
Phil, do you have side effects from verapamil? I also have hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy and palpitations and a fast heart rate. They have just given me verapamil but it makes me dizzy and gives me a headache. I don't know if I can get used to this and it will go away or not but I haven't been taking them because they make me feel lousy. I can't take beta blockers because I have asthma. What else is there??? Kathy > > Hello everyone, If any one can help me My heart drs. want to do > > either Av node ablation or atrial fibilution ablation. Guest guest
I have been on verapamil for about 1.5 years. I did get headaches alot at first but they went away after about 2 weeks. I now have no problems with verapamil. I do know you shouldn't stop taking any meds without the consulting your doctor. I was on a blood pressure pill that they had to take me off of gradually. Your body gets immuned to these drugs and you may have a reaction by just quit taking them. J.T. Guest guest
Thank You Phil I am not sure what a ejection fraction is, I don't drink, but do drink soda's, the meds I take are Digitek, Sotalol, Warfarin, and not they also have me n Crestor, and then I do take pain meds, Have bad neck and should also. I am always in A-fib, I was in ICU for 4 days and the Drs. where ready to put the paddles on me, so see if I could come out of it and stay out, But on my own was out of it for 1 hr. so he said it would do any good, I know some of the meds are to slow me down, but can't slow anymore, I don't think, Sleep alot as it is. I go next week to talk with Drs. about surgery. Again thank you...Joyce Re: hypertrophic cardiomyopathy Joyce,What is you ejection fraction ??? What meds are you on ? Guest guest
Kathy, I cant say that I have any major side effects from the verapamil. Although it did make me a little dizzy in the begining, but now no problems. I'm not 100% sure that the Verapamil is the cure for my afibs because at the same time I stopped drinking caffine and reduced my alchohol intake to a glass of wine a day. But I think the combination of all those factors has significantly reduced my afib episodes. Good Luck, Phil > > > Hello everyone, If any one can help me My heart drs. want to do > > > either Av node ablation or atrial fibilution ablation. Guest guest
Mavik I had the same side effects from Verapamil. They did subside some, but I also only remember my pills at night so I asked for along acting drug that I could take once a day. That's when they switched me to Mavik. What do you take for your asthma? I'm using Advair these days and other than the cost, it's fantastic. Bridget > Phil, do you have side effects from verapamil? Guest guest
Hi Bridget, for my asthma they had me on advair but it gave me a sore throat. So then they tried a new one called Spiriva and it gave me a worse sore throat. ITs unfortunate because it really helped the asthma. Now I just take the rescue drug, Albuterol with a nebulizer when I have to. Were there any side effects from the mavik? I think I was tried on that and I didn't have side effects except from my heart. It made me very short of breath but it may have been another drug. I will look it up. Guest guest
Mavik has never given me any trouble. I'm not familiar with Spiriva, but I can tell you this about inhaled sterods like Advair, rinsing your mouth after every use is very important. Azmacort was the one that was the worst for me. I had thrush in a few weeks. I've used a couple other inhaled steriods but the Advair works the best for me. One trick I did learn by chance was to gargle with coke instead of just rinsing my mouth out to prevent throat irritation. One of my nurses thinks it's the acid that does it, but we don't don't know for sure, we just know it works for me.
