Guest guest
Relax and Renew: Make a Sound Have you ever heard the _expression "children should be seen and not heard"? From a very young age, we are taught that making noise is bad. Instead of making sounds, we learn to internalize our emotions and keep silent and docile. But sometimes creating sound can be deeply relaxing. When we chant "OM" in class, we are mimicking the first sound of the universe — a combination of all sounds. At other times, sighing or even shouting in private can release a great deal of stress from the body. Try this simple exercise: Take a breath in through your nose. At the top of your inhale, pause for a moment to enjoy that feeling of life in your lungs. Then open your mouth and exhale all the air with a deep, audible sigh. You'll feel more relaxed in no time.
