Guest guest
To tell you the truth, I have an ICD as well as my brother and sister. They were implanted about 11 years ago (of course with replacements since then). But none of us ever had the restriction placed on us and our v-fib went way into the 300-400's. 6-month driving restriction Hi all, Just wondering.... for those who had a cardiac arrest, then the ICD, how many of you actually followed through with the 6-month " no driving " restriction? I've got 2 months to go before I'm *supposed* to drive again, and I've just about had it! The kindness of friends hauling me around seems to be plunging as gasoline prices rise (there's some kind of cause & effect). I feel great, no probs, no zaps, just wondering what y'all think about this issue.... Guest guest
, I had a sudden cardiac arrest in May and recieved my ICD rite after. My arteries are clean and except for a small myopathy my heart is ok. My doc did say something about not driving but I pretty much ignored him because after recouping at home for a week I felt pretty good. I think the driving restriction is on a case by case thing. What is your condition ??? any afibs or vfibs ?? It sounds like your doc is just being cautious. I have had 1 zap (unwarrented due to low gain selling on my A lead) while i was walikin across a parking lot and I sure would NOT want to zapped driving. Good luck , Phil > Hi all, > Just wondering.... for those who had a cardiac arrest, then the ICD, how > many of you actually followed through with the 6-month " no driving " > restriction? Guest guest
Hi , I too had the 6 month restriction, but here in NY the law requires it especially if you had any loss of conscientiousness. Before my 6 months were up, I ended up with a stroke and seizures which extended the 6 months to 18 months. I certainly know what you are going through. The decision is yours, but you had better check with your DMV(Division of Motor Vehicles) to see if there is any law against it. At least that way you will know if you are breaking the law. Guest guest
, Here in Carolina we have a three month restriction, but though I had a pretty serious arrest and recuperation, I got antsy after a month or two and started driving short distances. It was more or a psychological thing for me because I needed to feel normal as soon as possible. I never drove if I felt "off" in any way, and I believe it helped me get back to my version of normal. I do understand the concern about losing consciousness, but since my first event I have come to know my personal symptoms and would not do anything to risk myself or others. Guest guest
Does anyone know if they (the state) has anything to say about when the ICD is replaced? California did not have Public Transportation in mind when it was laid out.......... (I only lasted 3 weeks).............H Becca wrote: , Here in Carolina we have a three month restriction, but though I had a pretty serious arrest and recuperation, I got antsy after a month or two and started driving short distances. Guest guest
Hello : I guess it all depends on if you pass out before you get shocked, If you dont it may be ok for you to drive. But if you do i guess it wouldn't be advisable to drive. In my case I was ok to drive because i did not pass out. Guest guest
here in NJ the restriction is 1 yr and it's based on if you've lost conciousness (sp?)... I had so was restricted to the one year thing which lasted 6 wks after which my sources for rides dried up and I had to drive in order to run private business my husband owns ... I'm still restricted as to the distance EP would have me drive... she says around town is my limit and it's been almost 12 yrs since first ICD was implanted.
