You can find out all about Yerba Mate at www.guayaki.com That's where I buy mine. I don't really care for the taste of it (like ashes!), but their peppermint version is good. I always add sweetener. Check out the videos to see how to authentically brew the yerba mate in the gourd (I have one) and drink it with the bombilla (the straw). It's quite a ritual in the places where this is common. If I sweeten the tea, I can drink it all day from the gourd except for the first brew, which is strong. You keep adding hot water to the leaves in the gourd, so each succeeding batch is a bit weaker, but more palatable IMO. The people at Guayaki are great to deal with. Happy New Year!Peggy
