Apple Butter

The first time I tried to make hot apple syrup for pancakes I made my basic applesauce recipe (on my website) but doubled the dates to make it sweeter. I blended on high until hot but it turned out VERY thick. It turned out just like apple butter! Now I thin it down with water when I want it to be more "syrupy". But the mistake turned out great too - just not syrup.

Re: Thank you

I make refrigerator pear jam in the VM by just blending up whole pears until they are hot and blended, then adding just a touch of agave nectar. When the sauce is thick and blended, I add in a couple of additional pears and pulse just enough to chop them fine, so the jam has a bit of chunky texture-yum!

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for making me feel welcome on here and answering my crazy questions. The most important thing I learned is that there is no real recipe, everything will be trial and error with the ingredients I have on hand, flavor and measure to personal taste. All the wonderful recipes out there are great guidelines. I just discovered the file section and that will take me weeks to sort through. Enjoy everyone. Think my next experiement will be a pear/applesauce.

Sounds delicious! Don't you just love when a "mistake" becomes a favorite? That's one of the things I love about the Vitamix-you never end up with something that can't be "repurposed" if it doesn't turn out the way you intended!

It's not so much a recipe but when I make apple butter I just use my crockpot. I

peel and core them then throw them in. When they're soft I mash them to make

applesauce. If you leave it longer it turns into apple butter. The whole process

is pretty easy. You can sweeten it as you like beyond that.
