Guest guest
Healing Yoga: Yoga for the Common Cold Fighting the winter sniffles? Yoga can help. Although many people think that having a cold means you should stop your practice, gentle restorative poses and inversions can clear the sinuses, stimulate the immune system, and jumpstart the healing process. Your first goal will be to get your head below your heart. Although this will increase the pressure in your sinuses temporarily, it will soon reduce your discomfort by draining your sinuses. Downward-Facing Dog or Standing Forward Bend are great choices for this. Next, select an easy inversion you can practice without strain. Supported Shoulderstand, Supported Plow Pose, or Legs Up the Wall are all good options. Relax into the pose and allow blood to flow into the heart and head. Finally, lie on the floor and support the opening of your diaphragm by placing pillows or a bolster under your spine and shoulders (remember to support your head and to keep your hips on the floor). Cover or close your eyes, relax into the pose, and invite health back into your body.
