Guest guest
There are some dietary things she can do for the potassium. Orange Juice, bananas, prunes, apricots and dates are my potassium foods of choice. Also, I discovered that if your sodium is up, your potassium drops, so avoiding sodium is helpful. (and it's amust for me now, I'v become hypersensitive, anything over 1000mg a day and I swell up like a balloon and can't breathe. 1000 mg is actually pushing it a bit - I aim for less than that.) But don't go overboard with the potassium either, too much is just as bad as not enough. Bridget > She has had low potassium every time shes been > in and still not put on potassium pills. Guest guest
Hello BridgetMy doctor told me not to worry about having more potassium than you need and he said that kidneys filter anything that is more than you need, Should i start to worry? Guest guest
I agreed with Briget. Also suggest you have regular blood test for electrolytes to keep taps on sodium, potassium etc. Chris
Guest guest
Hi Turk, Not long ago I had a lousy cold and was drinking orange juice like water. When I had my blood test, my potassium level was the highest its ever been. I was told to be careful, high potassium can cause V-tacks as well as low potassium. Take care, Chris
Guest guest
As long as your kidneys are working, I don't think you can get too much potassium from diet. But if you have impaired kidney function too, maybe check with your doctor first. Personally, I think the best theing to do is to change the diet slowly. Don't suddenly start drinking a gallon of OJ a day but adding a few potassium rich foods should be okay. Guest guest
Dear Turk, In California, executions are carried out using potassium to stop the heart. Kidneys are good filters but they can be overwhelmed if you take a lot of potassium-sparing drugs. My doctor monitors potassium levels every 3 months. I stay away from high potassium foods. Guest guest
Thanks for all the responses. I too get my blood tests done every three months. So far thank god everything has been ok. I was wondering when your level is perfect with your normal diet can your potassium levels increase to dangerous levels in the 3 months between the blood tests. The reason why I am asking is that I have not have any bi-geminis or tri-geminins in a long time. Lately I have been getting this rhythm where i feel two beats and then a pause and same thing. When i start feeling that I start getting this hot flashes, does anyone ever feel that way? Thanks, TURKBridget <rumplegroups@...> wrote: As long as your kidneys are working, I don't think you can get too much potassium from diet.
