Guest guest
Yoga Basics: What Are Twists? Many yoga practitioners claim to love twists above all other poses. That's because twisting poses relieve backache by moving the spine through its full range of motion and "wringing out" the internal organs to cleanse and detoxify the body. There are many different kinds of twists, including standing twists, seated twists, and reclined twists. Most poses that ask you to look over your shoulder are twists. You can try a very simple twist by lying flat on your back with your knees bent. Then, let them gently move all the way to the right until they touch the floor. Look over your left shoulder and take a few deep breaths, then switch sides. One way to get the most out of twisting is to think of your shoulders and your hips as being in opposition. So when you pull your left shoulder back, for example, move your left hip forward. Spend a few minutes in twisting poses today, and you'll quickly understand what makes them so popular.
