Guest guest
Oh, dear. Did you call Vitamix on their toll-free number? Be aware that if there actually were a problem, the motor would have turned itself off before any damage was done. In the meantime, do you have enough liquid (or at least enough wet stuff like grapes) at the bottom of the container? Frozen-to-liquid proportions and the order in which they're added is very important when you're working with "frozens." Vita Mix made horrible noise! Im new. Got my machine on QVC. Have had it about 2 wk. I use it about 3 times a day. Twice for smoothies and once at night for ice cream. Just now making my ice cream with frozen bananas and strawberries and a few green grapes it started making the most awful noise! I finished my ice cream, turned it off, emptied it, put in water to clean and started it again. It sounded fine. WHAT HAPPENED?? I dont have enough frozen stuff to make more, and dont want to, but I will make more tomr night. IF it does that again, I guess I will send it back. anybody have this happen? Guest guest
No, I didnt call. It just happened a few min ago. It was all frozen fruit except for about a cup of Almond milk. It didnt turn itself off. I turned it off and on again and same noise. But after I emptied the ice cream and added water to wash it, it ran fine. As I always said, 'If it were'nt for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all' something always happens to me! pam > > Oh, dear. > Did you call Vitamix on their toll-free number? Guest guest
Yes, I watched the DVD and read the books. I am also right now watching videos online on how to make ice cream. I'm sure I did it right. I may have used a tad more frozen than I have before. I sure hope it works OK tomr. I have come to really love my smoothies. They are better than eating! ) thanks! pam > > It's not bad luck, you probably just didn't add enough liquid! That's probably why the machine sounded fine when it was empty. The minimum liquid-to-frozen ratio is 1/4 and the liquids/soft-or-juicy stuff needs to be added first with the frozen stuff on top. Did you read the instructions thoroughly and watch the DVD? > > > > > >
Guest guest
Its morning and I had my green smoothie. It worked fine. Last night I was watching different videos making ice cream with the Vita Mix. I saw one lady making bluberry ice cream. Her machine did the same thing mine did! It was so funny. She didnt let on anything was going on, and it did finish the ice cream, but you could tell by the look on her face while this high pitched zinging noise was going on that something was wrong, but she never said anything, just carried on and dished it out .... so, I assume my Vita Mix is OK for another day. thanks! pam > > Give it a try again with a little more liquid and even if you still have a problem, don't worry. Vitamix really stands behind their product and they bend over backwards for their customers. If there's an actual problem, they'll make it right. > > > > > > > Re: Vita Mix made horrible noise! > > ? Guest guest
It was very likely that an air pocket formed and what you heard was the sound of the blades spinning freely on high - a very loud sound to be sure. There could have also been a chunk of something frozen clanging around inside of that air pocket making the sound even worse. And the sound seems especially loud when there is a cover of frozen ingredients above the air pocket. The key to reducing the noise of air pockets forming is to use your tamper liberally. The tamper will pop the air pocket, but if the mixture is really thick and frozen, an new air pocket will form right away. Keep in mind that as long as the container is seated firmly on the base an air pocket (although very loud) does Absolutely No Harm to the motor. In fact, there is no strain on the motor at all when the blades are making that screeching sound as they are spinning in air - it is only when the blades are bogged down by the frozen mixture and churning (and the sound is quieter) that there is strain on the motor, but as long as you are running the machine on high and the thick mixture is no more than 4 cups, the motor should be up to the task. If the task is "too much" for the motor, the thermal heat sensor will kick in and the machine will shut down. It will work again when the motor cools off. When you make nut butters air pockets form over and over and over. The solution is to use your tamper over and over and over to pop that repeatedly forming air bubble. That is exactly what the tamper is for! The same goes for very frozen ice creams. Either use the tamper liberally, or add some liquid. Have you reviewed my ice cream recipe? I give instructions and hints on how to make ice cream in general (the "theory" of ice cream making in the Vitamix) not just a recipe :-) Blessings,Lea Ann SavageSatellite Beach, FL(321) 773-7088 (home)(321-961-9219 (cell)))><'>www.VitamixLady.comwww..com<))>< Vita Mix made horrible noise! Guest guest
I just went to your site and found your ice cream tips under recipe Lea Ann. I make a lot of ice cream but I never knew what I was doing. I just dumped in the frozen fruit, a little juice or diary and let 'er rip using the tamper until I get the four pillows. NOW I know how much liquid to add and exactly how to use the tamper the best way. <Pour the juice concentrate just to the tip of the highest blade > thank you thank you! The VM is one noisy machine but after using it a few weeks it just sounds like POWER to me. That's a good thing. My friend had hers stop and she was sure she had broken it until I told her after the overheating stuff. She was relieved. Of all things she had some beans she had been cooking for 7 hours and they were not done. She called me to ask about why this would happen and I explained about acid and beans and age.. all the usual. She was going to throw them out. I suggested she put them in the VM, whir them up and see what she could do with them at that point. She did and of course they turned creamy for her. I think they ended up creamed in a soup.
