I highly recommend following Norwalk's advice to "top, tail, and peel" carrots (and by extension, beets and parsnips) before using them. You'll have a better-tasting result that will keep better should you need to store it (unlikely, I realize), with no "dirty" flavor. The amount of nutrients in the peel of those three veggies (unlike, say, potatoes) is negligible, so you wouldn't be losing anything to speak of and you gain in flavor.

Baby-cut carrots are fine as-is--they're already peeled and I'm pretty sure they're washed, too.

I'm sure this is absolutely an old combo for those of you who have used a Vitamix for awhile but I'm still a true "newbie". <g>

My breakfast drink today.

1 huge apple, skin, stem, everything

1 large carrot, skin on

1 handfuls of baby spinach

1 T flax seed

about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of Pom juice

a splash of water

6 ice cubes

Baby carrots are washed, since they are just polished big ugly carrots that are polished down to baby size, using a water polishing machine. Sure, you can get "real" baby carrots (I grow them) but they are not what you would find in the stores. Real baby carrots are miniature ones that look the same as big ones. The "baby carrots" available for purchase start out as big, ugly carrots that are too ugly to sell, so they polish them down to a uniform size-they are still yummy and nutritious though. Just a tidbit I learned when I started growing my own-I guess I thought mine would grow plump and uniform, and when they did not, I did some investigating :)From: <kareningotham@...>Subject: Re: my breakfast drink today Date: Friday, October 15, 2010, 4:56 PM

Never doubted for a sec that you knew-we all know how you are about carrots, especially the funny way you top and tail them!

Hi Mark,

I use soy milk, handful of spinach or red leaf lettuce or cabbage, depending on what I have, a whole organic carrott, fresh or frozen strawberries or blue berries ( have even used organic grapes), half of a banana, teaspoon of peanut butter and 2 scoops of chocolate protein powder....it's yummy!

Hello, Mark. Any good combo of fruits and veggies would be good, with perhaps a handful of red quinoa thrown in for protein. I am not a fan of protein powders myself, but many people put in a scoop of those. I would rather get the protein from a natural source, and quinoa fits the bill nicely, and adds a nice body to a smoothie. From: Tammy Krumwiede <tammykay55@...>Subject: RE: my breakfast drink today Date: Friday, October 22, 2010, 3:08 PM
