Guest guest
You'll lose a lot of nutrients and freshness due to oxidation. The same thing that makes the shakes so good initially (high speed blades) is what hurts the juice after it sits too long, oxidation. So, many will suggest freezing it in an ice cube tray, then breaking it up and adding it to your next smoothie. That's what I've been doing anyway, and it seems to work very well. I usually take a few fruits and a bunch of vegetables and throw them in the Vitamix with a scoop of protein powder, some orange juice, and ice. The color of the smoothie varies from green, to orange, to yellow, to a hodgepodge of colors that look somewhat disgusting (but taste great). The end result is always great, but it's also usually more than I need for breakfast. So, I've been pouring what's leftover each morning into one or two Blender Bottles (depending on how much is left over) and storing those in the fridge. Usually in the early evening before a run or workout I'll take the bottle out and shake it a bit in order to ensure that everything is mixed thoroughly. The texture is not quite as smooth as it is after the initial mix in the blender, but it's pretty close. My question is: the biggest thing that turned me on to this blender was being able to blend fruit down to the cellular level which releases enzymes and vitamins that you just can't get any other way. By storing the smoothes in the fridge for 8-12 hours and then re-mixing them in my Blender Bottles, am I losing that benefit to a certain degree? Or is the smoothie just as healthy 8-12 hours later, re-mixed, as it was when I first created it in the morning? Thanks! Matt
