I work in retail and in turn I am one of the " older " employees (now I'm

cringing). The average age is 20 and the use of the word " retarded " or the

phrase

" I'm such a retard " is used as commonly as the word Hi. Sad but very true.

Until I had Nicky I used the word at least once a day and still have to stop

myself. As others mentioned, it is not used to be mean, in fact, most people

use it in reference to themselves or an object not another person.

Again, I wish it weren't so commonplace but I just don't give it much thought

anymore. I have so much going on around me and I worry about everything I am

just trying to keep it all in perspective.

Here in Australia I notice " spaz " being used more than retarded.

Ooooh :) I hated it when I was pregnant and all of my passionate issues

were blamed on ME being pregnant ......... like I fussed when someone in the

house didn't flush the toliet before I was pregnant, why would this be a PG

emotional issue heehee

I am now blonde, what exactly do you mean??? LOL

Kathy got me calling it plain old CRS Cant Remember Stuff ( or

substitute another word here when not in mixed company!) And I've discovered it

has

nothing to do with age- anyone can suffer from this!!!

I remember the word " spaz " being used quite frequently when I was in High

School...about 23 years ago (UGHHHH!!!!). Don't here it much anymore...some of

the new lingo for someone who is acting silly, goofy or not quite on the ball

is " dolt. " Not sure where it comes from...just hear the kiddies using it at

work....they also use the word " herb " to describe the 50's equivalent of nerd.

I just can't keep up with all the " groovy " new words.....hehehe.

Really hate when they call someone who is not so bright a " sped " that bothers

me a bit but I don't say too much. I'm more concerned with some of their

actions more than their verbal exchanges. Myabe that's narrow-minded but the

drinking and driving thing with a lot of the kids I work with kills me. So if

they promise not to drink and drive I'll keep my tongue about some of the

offensive words they spit out.
