Guest guest
Yes we are all here. Not much to carry on about as I for one have just completed cooking up my 4th pumpkin for pies and bread. I also just finished my 6th or 7th applepie. Bipolar does have some good things, up swings keep me going :-) Re: Anybody out there? Don't know if it was the Hyst or the heart problems but something stabilized my moods in the last year. Bridget
Guest guest
Has anyone here participated in a medical study for surgical procedures, cell transplantation, medications and the like? Pro's, con's, comments? Any experience/recommendations of things to consider before committing to participate in a Phase 1 cardiac medical study? I have met pre-screening for a cell transplantation (cells taken from the leg muscle and grown in a lab for 30 days then injected into the left ventricle.) I am curious if anyone here has had first hand experience with this or other cardiac related studies. Thanks for any input, Tommy -----Original Message-----From: Bridget [mailto:rumpleteasermom@...]Sent: Friday, November 21, 2003 9:28 AM Subject: Re: Anybody out there?> Yes we are all here. Thanks for any input, Tommy: All of need to have at least one medical authority that we trust completely, someone or a group of doctors that we go to for the advice we need on subjects we do not understand well enough to decide by ourselves. I am sure that you have such a person or group providing you with some of your medical care. If this person or group is not able to answer your questions adequately, they should be able to refer you to someone who can. As with all medical procedures thay will be required to inform you of potential dangers and/or other risks. After that it is up to you. This forum is, at very best, a supplemental source of information and guidance, almost always of an anecdotal nature or source. It should be used as you see a need after analysis of its content and potential use. As sincere as we might be, and as personally involved with AICD's and the attendant cardiac health issues that our implants have brought, we can do little more tha make you aware of things that might not otherwise be made known to you. Whatever we say is not the gospel according to Hippocratus. But I think you knew all that quite well. My personal experience with medical studies is minute, not of a cardiac nature and many years past. I cannot discuss with any knowledge or authority the specific issue which you have presented. However there are certain things that I would do after talking candidly with my cardiologist and getting equally candid responses. First I would learn about the group/agency conducting the study. Second I would make sure I understood what they were going to do long term after the procedure was done regarding both monitoring and any susequent care/treatment that was needed. Third I would ask the group doing the study for some sort of reference as to their treatment of patients after doing a study. Finally I would talk to my insurer and make sure that such a procedure would not affect my future medical coverage. One final comment. Patients with very serious conditions with bleak prognoses may very well have no other options, and in such cases there is very little advice about prudence that has much real value. I hope this helps. Sorry I couldn't address your specific question. From California where they think the Hippocratic Oath is a large animal's promise not to overturn your small boat.
