Guest guest
Hello! I just got my Vitamix last Friday and have put a lot of miles on it already! =) In doing the research before buying it and then anxiously atwaiting it's arrival, I have also been cruising the internet looking for good recipes, etc. A couple of questions I have are: 1. When you make a green smoothie, is there any reason you shouldn't make a good sized batch and refridgerate some of it for drinking later in the day? 2. Some recipes called for Romaine lettuce in them. Is there a big nutrional difference between Romaine, Red Leaf and Green Leaf lettuces? (I know Iceberg has little to no nutrition value)Is Romaine more nutritious, tastes better blended or can you just as easily substitute Red and Green leaf? 3. I have read that Green Smoothies are great for weight loss and increased energy ~ is there a particular recipe that is good for this or just because you are getting greens in, that is enough? Thanks in advance for any answers! Paige
Guest guest
Hey, Paige! I'm nor going to hazard a guess about 1 and 3 but romaine tends to be much milder in flavor than red and green leaf lettuce. I'm not sure but I doubt its nutritional profile is much different. Guest guest
Hi Paige, 1) I've only had my Vitamix for a few weeks but I typically make a green smoothy in the morning and save some for lunch or when I get home from work. I've even saved them for the next day and they're fine. Usually I blend them up again with a few ice cubes to refresh them for the second round, but I probably don't have to. 2) I was thinking the same exact things as 3) I don't know of a specific recipe I like over another for the green smoothies I've been making. I just use whats on hand and that usually includes an apple. This morning I had some red grapes, an apple, some leftover cooked broccoli, some zucchini and fresh baby spinach. I typically use around a cup of water, some ice, 2 tablespoons of flax seed. I tossed in some TSP (textured soy protein) this am, but still have a lot to learn about protein powders with regard to benefits so I'm just playing around with it till I research more. I've lost about 8 lbs so far and I'm thrilled because I couldn't drop a single pound before the Vitamix. I'm sure you will love your Vitamix! > > Hey, Paige! > I'm nor going to hazard a guess about 1 and 3 but romaine tends to be much milder in flavor than red and green leaf lettuce. Guest guest
As I reread your 3rd question, I don't think I addressed it correctly. I'm not certain what you're asking specifically. I do find the green smoothies filling and that they give me more energy. PS: Putting the cooked broccoli (or any cooked vegetable for that matter) in was a first for me, but it worked in just fine. > > > > Hey, Paige! > > I'm nor going to hazard a guess about 1 and 3 but romaine tends to be much milder in flavor than red and green leaf lettuce.
