I had two back-to-back, very pleasant encounters today. I was on the subway headed down to Chinatown and I noticed that the guy sitting next to me was reading a magazine that had food on every page he turned. Assuming it was a trade publication, I struck up a conversation by apologizing for looking over his shoulder. He was really nice; he turned out to be a consultant for small food businesses and I mentioned that I might be doing food work soon. The conversation turned to the Vitamix and it turns out that he has a 4000 that he still uses (has only had to replace a drive sprocket since he bought it) and would NEVER recommend the Blendtec. He mentioned how superb Vitamix's support is, that the machines are made HERE, and their reliability. It was a very nice chat (unfortunately, it was a short ride for me) and is further proof of how Vitamix is regarded among culinary professionals.

The second nice encounter occurred at a store in Chinatown. A Chinese lady struck up a conversation about some interestingly bottled Coke and then it turned out that we both make our own soy milk with the same machine (we traded recipe tips), then we learned that we were both tea fanatics, and then I suggested that she needs a Vitamix (and gave her Lea Ann's cell phone number). So I do hope she e-mails me because we had a lot of fun chatting and she's seriously into food, too. One can't have too many tea buddies.

Who says you can't meet nice people in New York City?

My Nice Day
