Guest guest
INCA brand is organic-bit more pricey, but worth it. I also have some organic RED quinoa I would be happy to ship you at my cost, if you drop me an email. I order the organic in bulk-I eat gluten free so it is my staple-MUCH cheaper to buy this way, even with shipping! The red quinoa is tastier than the yellow, in my opinion. It is milder and more versatile in baking. As for rinsing, MOST commercially available quinoa is pre rinsed, so the bitter saponins are already washed off and its not necessary. However, bulk purchased MAY not be organic OR rinsed-hard to say. If you do rinse it, try just lining your colander with a spread open coffee filter-makes it easier to lift out the rinsed grains afterwards. I often rinse mine in a large mason jar with a clean toe of pantyhose stretched over the top and secured with a rubber band so I can just tip it upside down-I do this for sprouting the quinoa, or any other grains for that matter. Let me know if you want any info on buying in bulk. (I am VERY picky about my grains, and have a very sanitary kitchen/packaging area-am obsessive about it, lol) Can grind into flour for her to, if you like. Guest guest
INCA brand is very good, and I think it may be pre-rinsed. The quinoa I buy in bulk from my Natural Grocers (Colorado) stores is not. LOVE the pantyhose/ball jar method of rinsing! Terrific idea. As for hummus - I have frozen hummus successfully. I find that the texture and flavor do not change. ~Bobbie From: berrywell@...Date: Mon, 16 Aug 2010 22:33:10 +0000Subject: Re: quinoa and hummus questions INCA brand is organic-bit more pricey, but worth it. Guest guest
Thanks for the advice and Bobby. I will hold off on ordering in bulk for shipping since my friend doesn't eat quinoa in large amounts and its just her, but thank you so much. The panty hose idea is great or the coffee filter as I myself have been frustrated and loose quite a bit of grain rinsing quinoa. I will try to freeze the hummus hopefully with good results like you, Bobby. Kim in TN > > > INCA brand is organic-bit more pricey, but worth it.
