Guest guest Posted September 5, 2004 Report Share Posted September 5, 2004 At 02:31 PM 9/05/2004, Donna M-P wrote: >Let me know how you like Aerobox! hi donna and everyone! ok, about aerobox... first of all, i was calling it 'air-oh-box' and i had to laugh when kathy smith says it as 'aw-row-box'. ... a play on 'aerobics', i guess ::shrug:: first kathy and michael olajide do a short instructional on how to do boxing punches properly and this is appreciated. then the class starts and it is a pleasure to see that michael leads the whole thing. kathy is basically just a participant in the class and she counts off reps for michael occasionally. and, remember how we were calling him 'scary michael' because of his abs workout and eye patch? well, he is actually very soft-spoken and doesnt seem that scary after all...LOL! he is a really good boxer though! he does all of the moves so naturally and with perfect form, of course. kathy smith is so smart to get experts for her speciality workouts. also the workout is filmed in an interesting way which seemed popular at the time -- an industrial-looking set and the camera takes a bunch of different angles and changes from colour to black-and-white at times. there are ropes from a boxing ring and the class wears boxing shoes for added effect. the music was there... i remember a very strong techno beat. ok, so michael leads the class through a boxing warmup which i thought was good... then goes onto a bunch of fast-moving boxing drills and combinations. i thought that this part was great except that michaels voice was quite soft and if he gave alot of cues, then i missed most of them. after some time spent doing that, michael had the class start bouncing... doing the 'boxer bounce' i guess you could say... while doing punches and combinations. this was fine, even with missed/non-existant cues, except that i did have to stop bouncing around before they did. next michael and gang get out their jump ropes to do jumping intervals, so i did too. and i lasted about, oh, 30 seconds. i dont know what i was thinking, but jump rope is not a good workout for an asthmatic. it is more like a good way to kill myself! LOL! i can increase my cardio endurance but because of the asthma, i dont think that i will ever reach the point where i can jump rope like this :/ it looks like a real blast... but, nope... those parts of this workout are not for me. it is strange that i even have a jump rope in the first place. i think that someone, along the road, gave it to me. anyway, it is going back to where i keep it, at the bottom of my fitness drawer! and this workout, well.... i would really like it if i were able to do even some of the jumping. but im not... so i think that i will give or trade this one away. i did like the boxing component alot but i already get so much of that with taebo. -carolyn.
