Guest guest
todays workout was kathy smith's step workout from waaay back in 1992. because ive been out of commission for 2 days due to DOMS from doing slim series (heh heh), ive had to take my workout down some notches today. this one is about 70 mins long. after a good warmup (8 mins) the aerobic stepping is divided into 3 segments -- beginner (12 mins), intermediate (13 mins) and advanced (10 mins). i do all of the segments... in the beginner segment i do all of the arm patterns and add propulsion where possible.... in the intermediate segment i do whatever kathy and the gang are doing... in the advanced segment i do most of the arms and some of the propulsion moves. all of the steps are basic choreography... there is nothing really tricky here. after the step workout, kathy does some lower body sculpting (no weights) which also serves as a cool-down from the aerobics. this consists of squats (with one foot on the bench), side leg lifts and rear leg lifts. this segments lasts for about 5 mins. then comes 5 mins of abs -- again she uses the step and recommends raising one end to make the exercises more challenging. there are many different variations shown for different fitness levels. next comes upper body sculpting (8 mins) which consists of pushups, tricep dips, lat rows (i used a 15 pound dumbell), one arm bicep curls (i used a 10 pound dumbell) and shoulder/lateral raises (i used a pair of 8 pound dumbells) -- she does 2 sets of 10 for each of these exercises. finally comes a 5 minute stretch/cooldown. overall, quite a pleasant workout. a good one for me to do today -- i know that i wont be sore tomorrow and the moderate, steady cardio makes me feel happy id classify it as a beginner/intermediate workout. also, one thing that i always like about kathy's workouts is that she has michael as a background exerciser. he is so cute! (although he looks alot older now on kathy's newest workout - lift weights to lose weight 2 -- oh well! everyone has to get older sooner or later, although kathy looks like she never ages...LOL) anyway, here is the review page for this workout at videofitness if you are interested: http://www.videofitness.com/reviews/ksmith-sw.php *~*~*~*~* Carolyn --- Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).
