I have a friend who bought all lime green and orange shirts for her son.

When she drove by the playground at school she could pick him out easily. She

documented that he was out on the playground most of the day. He has autism and

they felt it was easier to give in to his tantrums and let him swing the day

away.

I've told the story many times of leaving school during recess when

she was in kindergarten. A woman 3 blocks away saw in her yard,

recognized the school uniform and called the police, who came and took

back to school. In the meantime, the school was locked down, and everyone

was searching for . One thing we identified from this was that you

couldn't pick out in a crowd. The public schools wear uniforms (which

we love), but then again, there is a big sea of khaki and green at recess.

We bought a neon yellow tank top, the type runners wear (it was vented

with those tiny holes, and also short waisted). Every day before recess

would put on her yellow top, and then was easily spotted. For winter

time I have always purchased her a bright red or bright yellow winter coat.

She loves the bright colors, and is still easily spotted in a crowd.

Now is 11, and has not tried to run away for several years. However,

I still am on my guard, I just can't say for sure that she won't do it

again. We always are talking about her boundaries, and so far she has done

well. At the school we attend now, there aren't uniforms, but the

playground is smaller and fenced, and knows she has about 20 minutes

or so, and she doesn't want to lose recess time, so she buckles down and

plays.

I do the same thing for all my girls when we go to the beach. Everyone

has their " beach " bathing suit, which is one piece (so as to not lose a

bottom in the waves.... it has happened, just not to us :-), and the

brightest, most obnoxious neon color I can find. Last year it was lime

green (the color of the season I guess), so they all had some version

that was mostly that bright green. This year seems to be bringing

dayglo orange, but it works! I can count my brood easily amongst the

sea of other suits..... especially when they are playing together. Soon

they will resist, but for now, it works! I also do this at theme parks,

other places that are crowded..... usually they all pick red shirts or

tye-dye..... they are getting the idea!

has been wearing a neon orange and pink jacket whenever we are in

crowds. Her sister has a matching jacket. They are easy to spot. With my

son's hair stands out in a crowd. So far has not wondered off but she

is

not yet 4.

Wandering off is so scary!

I use the orange shirt too for .

Glad to see I am not the only one.

The only time the orange shirt didn't work was when we went to the

pumkin patch. LOL I Had wear his orange shirt. The minute we

got out to the patch I realized my mistake.

Hi

You got to keep the orange shirt on too! It was downright cold at Silver

Dollar City last Sunday and we got the kids some warm clothes until it

warmed up. put a grey sweatshirt on . When he didn't come down

from Geyser Gulch I was looking all over for a kid in orange! By the time I

had worked my way through 500 kids and thousands of balls, there he was with

Mom and the other kids at the entrance! So keep those orange shirts on!

(unless it gets cold, and then try to find an orange sweatshirt!)

here's one for ya just this week I brought my twins to kindergarten

orientation the kids went with the teachers and parents stayed with

the principal. Because I know my daughter she also brought her God

mother with her down to the class room. so she proceeds to act up and

not do what everyone else is doing so her God mother decided to leave

thinking she would act better in a group of people she doesn't know.

gave one of the teacher's Kat's hand and told her she will take

off so keep a close eye on her. came down to the cafeteria for

about 15 minutes she then went back to of course find no Kateri! She

asked each teacher where she was they all thought each had her! so as

maria is starting back down the hall to look for her hre she comes

down the stairs and runs into the cafeteria boy was she scared!

so do you think she's ready for this environment?

What a day!
