Guest guest
Hi Donna! With your guard up and your left foot turned out at 9:00, bring your right knee in front of you as if you were doing a knee strike. Now, aim your butt at 3:00 and push out - your leg for a moment will look like an " L " til it's fully extended. Contact is made with the blade of the foot. This is a SIDE KICK. For a roundhouse, start the same way, only instead of putting your knee in front, you take your leg back as if you were doing a hamstring curl. If you were against a wall, no part of your body would be touching it. Lift the leg up into a roundhouse prep knee like this, still not touching the wall. Your foot goes from back to front, making contact with the wall (opponent) with your shoelaces. Hope this helps! the Turbo Girl
Guest guest
What is the blade of your foot? So the differences between the 2 kicks are the leg position in the beginning (knee up like a knee strike vs. knee down like a hamstring curl) and which part of your foot is used to strike the opponent? - From: Pink [mailto: pinkpussycat@...] Date: Sun, 08 Aug 2004 18:25:04 -0000 Subject: Side Kick VS a Roundhouse Kick Hi Donna! Guest guest
That is correct. With a side kick you are making contact with your opponent from the side, and the bottom of your foot. With a roundhouse, you are attacking him from behind, your foot comes around to the front and you are making contact with the top of your foot. Hope this clarifies! Come to Portland and take my class so I can show ya in person! Guest guest
Yeah, that helped. I asked my husband too and he demonstrated both kicks to me. (He took Tae Kwon Do as a kid. I'm surprised he still remembers!) - From: Pink [mailto: pinkpussycat@...] Date: Sun, 08 Aug 2004 21:38:13 -0000 Subject: Re: Side Kick VS a Roundhouse Kick That is correct.
