Guest guest
Yes - lots of high fructose corn syrup. If you notice they don't list their ingredients on their websites - I put a call in to Smoothie King and the operator was able to list some of their smoothies that have HFCS in them. The operator didn't know what the other smoothies are sweetened with and put me through to a voice mail. I will report back when I hear from them. I submitted a request for the same information on Planet Smoothie's web form (they didn't give an 800 number). Bottom line, if you've been off of sugar for a couple of years like I have, a smoothie from Planet Smoothie or Smoothie King would gag you. Sadly, the kids are innundated with sugar and high fructose corn syrup at every turn so they don't really have a chance to acquire a healthy taste for low sugar foods. The best suggestion I can give you is to attempt to approximate the taste with LOTS of dates (at least there is some fiber in there). It is very hard to compete with HFCS - I know - my kids don't like anything I make, but that is mostly because it is ME making them(have you ever hear the phrase, "a prophet has no honor in their home town")? I see teenage kids in my audiences beg their moms to get them a Vitamix after they taste my Green Smoothie and my Ice Cream, it is because I am not THEIR mom!!! :-) Blessings,Lea Ann SavageSatellite Beach, FL321-773-7088 (home)321-961-9219 (cell)www.VitamixLady.comwww..com 13:35 <)))>< Smoothie King Smoothies Ok.....so my kids looooooove Smoothie King & Planet Smoothie fruit smoothies. Does anyone know how they prepare the mixture to make their smoothies? Thanks!! Connie
Guest guest
LOL!!!!! I understand about the kids not wanting mom to make the smoothies because "when you make it mom, it doesn't taste the same." When I have their smoothies made @ Smoothie King, I have them use turbinado sugar or stevia. I probably should've been a little more specific with my request. It's the texture of the smoothie that they like. Kind of a smooth, slushy, frozen feel to it. Maybe they use fruit syrup with a little fruit in it or something?? Guest guest
Funny I just visited their web site – tons of sugar and calories in the Smoothie King smoothies. The fruit is sweet enough for me. We never add sweetener to our fruit smoothies. Al Iberri mailto:aiberri@... Guest guest
I see you have the " kid mentality " down to a science. I have the same problem but in reverse: if my parents hear it from me, it can't be good. Extremely frustrating, especially given that my track record for useful advice is quite good. Guest guest
Heck, you can make wonderful fruit syrups in your Vita-Mix to use for smoothies (why didn't this occur to me before?). In addition, Welch's has those all-juice white grape juice concentrates in funky flavors that can be used as well. Both Lea Ann and I bemoan the fact that the peach and pear flavors aren't available near us. Guest guest
> > Yes - lots of high fructose corn syrup. You said a mouthful Lea Ann! HFCS is brutal stuff, but most kids don't want anything not made with it-fortunately my teen daughter is not one of them! In fact, she NEVER gets sick, very healthy=but she never eats anything with HFCS in it. Yesterday, one of her teachers " treated " the class to some coffee concoction from Mc's. My daughter drank it out of politeness, but told me it tasted sickly sweet and very chemically. She said all the others loved it. Anyway, she drank about half of it, and was very sick by the time she got home-ended up throwing up half the night. This happened not too long ago when she was at a sleepover at a friends house as well-she got sick after drinking soda loaded with HFCS. We have a SODASTREAM home soda maker, so we make our own healthy soda with agave and fresh fruit, so she is not used to the commercial crap-and it hits her HARD every time she consumes it-evil stuff! -NC
Guest guest
-Oh, the SODASTREAM rooooooccckkkkksss!!! Niftiest gadget I have ever bought. They sell the " kit " at most places for 99-I waited until it was on sale at Kohl for 79, then used some coupons and store discounts and got it for 59!!! (I am the bargain shopping queen, lol) I love it! We make fruit syrups out of our garden berries, or just make a simple lime/ginger soda with agave nectar-AWESOME! Being allergic to corn, I had to give up soda many, many years ago, and being able to have it again, sans the crap, is wonderful for me. Also we make a soda and freeze it into popsickles-a FIZZY pop is a wonderful thing on a hot day! I highly recommend the purchase! -NC
