Just getting ready to get offline for the evening &

thought I'd try to get a topic going. LOL! Of course

I do this when I'm not going to be here!

I haven't done much lately. My mother-in-law wants me

to do a basket for her friend that is retiring from

teaching in June. All I know is it's got to be Baby

Powder scented and cost her $25. She left the rest up

to me.

Then my mother calls today and wants a basket put

together for tomorrow!!! Geez, like I don't have kids

to take care of during the day. So I get to throw

that together tonight. Yup, here I am procrastinating

again!!!

Other than that I haven't soaped in over a month!

I've been toying with a cphp recipe that I have yet to

try out. I made it up & ran it thru the lye calc and

that's as far as that's gotten. Maybe I'll try that

out tomorrow night. 's gonna be out of town over

night so I'll have some peace & quiet! Hehe!

Well, I'm off to make that basket! Have a good night

all!

Hey, Everyone!

>>Just getting ready to get offline for the evening & thought I'd try to get

a topic going.<<

I'm glad that you did, Colleen! :-) Well, I have a few orders for bath and

body stuff that I'm almost done with ... just have to wait until tomorrow to

get my soap base order and more citric acid. Then, I can finish everything

and get it sent off. I'm so impatient for my supplies to get here!!!

*jumping up and down and checking UPS's online tracking every five minutes*

>>My mother-in-law wants me to do a basket for her friend that is retiring

Cool! Don't you love it when people " leave it up to you " ? I really enjoy

that, because then I can be creative. So what are you thinking about for

this basket? It sounds really nice. I think that baby powder-scented bath

fizzies would be cool. Has anyone found a good baby powder scent that they

like? I definitely would encourage people NOT to buy baby powder FO from

www.cedarvale.com ... it smells too chemical-ly and is way strong, and it

doesn't really have that gentle, soft baby powder scent (in my opinion). The

baby powder FO from Florida Soap Supplies is good, though.

>>and wants a basket put together for tomorrow!!!<<

Wow! So how did that turn out? I just put together a basket for my friend

Amy as a housewarming gift (I posted a picture of that to the files section

of our Web page), and I also did a purple and gold gift basket for our

realtor as a thank you to her for helping us find a house. (Actually, we're

going to build a house ... we aren't going to give this basket to her until

everything is done and she's really no longer our realtor, technically.)

Anyway, I should probably post a picture of the basket on our Web site ... I

am really pleased with it.

Talk to you all later,

~nne in Albany :-)

Hi friends,

I'm getting ready for an open house at my house that I let my friend the

candlemaker talk me into. I guess it's fair because I'm the one with the 'shop'

space. ggggrrrrr! I just hate doing these kind of things! Now I'll have to

clean up my mess. I will post the ad we did up for this occasion - let me know

Good luck . My neighbor across the street is doing this with her

candles this week. Their son is good friends with my son and he brought me

a flyer. Just plain computer typed, no graphics and in big bold letters it

said, " We finally got it right! " Yeah, let me buy a candle from them! NOT!

No insurance or anything...

LOL! I don't bother with the tracking, I just stare

out my kitchen window & will that big brown truck to

pull up in front of my house. The when it does, I

practically run the kids over as I make a bee-line for

the front door!!!! Poor hubby wonders if I'm having

an affair with the driver cause I get so excited when

I know he's bringing me supplies!

> So what are you thinking about for this basket?

The basket for my mil, I have no idea yet! I probably

won't even think about it until a week before it needs

to be done. I'm awful!

> and wants a basket put together for tomorrow. Wow! >

So how did that turn out?

That one was actually easy cause I only had to make up

a bottle of lotion. Everything else was already made.

Lucky thing for my mother since she gave me such

short notice.

As for Baby Powder FO, try either WSP or Sissies

Candles. I've had it from both places and both are

pretty good, smell true to the scent.

And your basket for the realtor looks great! So when

and where are you going to be building?

Hey all,

I really didn't get to do much so far this week but work at the florist

for Secretaries Week. I also put a $35.00 basket together for a donation to

Animal Lovers. A lady from the organization picked it up today along with

an order of flowers while I was at work. She NEVER said thank you! I am

really steaming mad! She just commented on where I lived but never said

anything else.

So different from the local no kill animal shelter that I also donated a

basket too last year. The lady was so thrilled with my stuff that she

called me personally at home after she'd picked the basket up at work and

made a huge fuss over it! lol I also went to the fund raising event and

while I was there she identified me to everyone and thanked me again.

Maybe I'm just touchy, but since my boss declined donating something to

Animal Lovers and that I just happened to answer particular phone call and

say I'd donate something from my little itty bitty business.... I don't

know... I just think I deserve a simple one second thank you.

I'm really doing it to help the animals and not for advertising but this

will make me think twice about donating to this organization again. Am I

being too touchy? Thanks for any input even if you think I'm wrong. :)

I am a SAHM who does not work, but wishes she did. I have two children

living, two girls ages 11 and 13 and my son who has crossed over the Rainbow

Bridge. Right now I am taking many courses online and trying to find where I

fit into the scheme of things.

I don't know squat about soaping so am just going to listen and read posts.

AW, what kinds of courses are you taking?

You know when I first started soapmaking I didnt understand much either but

just doing a lot of searching online and reading you learn a lot. I didnt

even know of any groups that I knew of to ask questions. Some of those site

links I posted should help you a lot. So when you come across something you

dont get, dont be afraid to ask. We were all where you are once.

I am trying to get ready for another show in two weeks, get stuf for mothers

day done for LW, and I just got two wholesale orders I have to get out.

That is all fine but like This week I thought I had jury duty, which I got

excused from and that was good except for now my BIL (brother in law) showed

up from across the country last nite, totaly unexpected and I dont know how

long he is planning on staying (yikes). And the roofers have been banging

away all week cept for monday when it rained. yada yada yada... I just have

to chain myself to my kitchen and get some stuf made and ignore the rest. I

am just having a tough time finding my motivation this week.

Hi Shaye,

I don't know where you find the motivation & time to get everything done

that you do in a normal day to begin with! Somehow I know you'll accomplish

everything you have to no matter what the distractions are. Good luck!

What have I been up this week? Well not much in the line of soaping, but I

ve been putting the finishing touches on my website..... couldn't resist

giving it a makeover. I was going to have to replace all the shopping cart

links anyway. Getting rid of CCNow.com.... got tired of waiting for them to

send me my money and we looked back over the past year and 97% of sales were

paid with PayPal... the rest were money order or check and only a few

through CCNow.com... looking into ProPay for future use as well as that will

allow me to take credit cards over the phone as well as walk in customers

here at the house (which are slowly increasing... mostly through my sister,

but hey... it's business!)

Let see what else have I been up to..... oh yesterday sucked.... literally!!

Come to find out the water main behind our house wasn't broken after all,

but they found one leaking across the street. The park manager came through

and said the water was going to be shut off for the afternoon. Ok no biggy

for me.... I just have to remember to turn off the water heater... for some

reason when they put water heaters in mobile homes they don't put in a

backflow valve meaning if there is no water pressure to the heater the water

will drain back out into the feeder pipe... if you have an electric water

heater your heater thinks the water is getting cold when theres no water in

it and will run the eliment (sp) and the eliment (sp) will burn out. So we

have to be sure to shut the heater off if we know they are working on the

system here..... hubby is going to put in a backflow valve this summer so we

don't have to worry about this again :)

So back to why my day sucked..... my Dad and step Mom feel they can not be

without a bunch of water saved up for a just incase type situation whenever

they shut the water off in the park so they fill up pitchers, pails, jugs,

sinks and the tub. Well..... my step Mom was filling their tub when the

phone rang and off she went to get the phone... totally forgot about the

tub!! I get this call.... " Come down here quick!! " and she hung up.. this is

the way she is.... I run out thinking something has happened to Dad, but he

wasn't home so I'm thinking as I'm RUNNING down the street she has had

another stroke or something... NOoooo... her tub ran over so much it was in

the hallway and headed out to the living room!!! So my day sucked.... sucked

with the shop vac and I don't think their carpet is dry yet!! I could hear

it running through cracks in the subfloor and hitting the ground under their

trailer. She thinks it was running for close to an hour! The 2 of them are

getting very forgetful... Dad still works (at 74!!) and she does alot of his

office work, but sometimes they plain scare me with some of the things they

do..... like one day my son and I rode along with her to the grocery store..

... she almost took off in the car without my sons door being closed and he

wasn't even buckled in and still had one leg out of the car..... and they

wonder why I don't think it's a good idea for him to go on out of state mini

vacations with them... YIKES!

Today is a half day for the kids (they just had all of lastweek off!!) so I

may not get much of anything done in the soap department, but I going to set

up here in a few minutes to get 2 more pictures of products for the new

website.

ok... off to call Colleen

Dear Patti,

My name is Rhonda Marr of Sweet Violet Botanicals, I am new to this chat

thing, and I want to join the CNY Soapmakers.

You mentioned that you have been studying Aromatherapy. I am an

Aromatherapist/Herbalist and Soapmaker.

I am Sponsoring Jeanne Rose to come to Ithaca, NY May 17, 18 19 to teach a

blending class. The cost of the seminar includes all essential oils,

carrier oils, bottles and a copy of her blending book. If anyone from CNY

SoapMakers is interested in attending I can send more registration info out.

The price for the whole weekend is now $360.00 but I will offer all members,

as the earlybird deadline has past, the discounted price of $325.00.

Please let me know if any of you are interested.

I want to come to your gathering this summer, but I need more info, such as

directions, price, etc.

Thank you

Rhonda

  • 4 years later...

ahhh have you thought about getting a puppy???? it is a great way for

kids to learn to kep stuff off the floor. Lots of things get chewed

up if found or pulled apart and shredded (clothes and hoes for one)

and they don't seem to mind if they go potty on your favorite outfit.

Something to keep in mind. Our dogs are no longer puppies but they

still tend to chew up anything plastic on the floor. This includes

hangers, plastic contaners of any kind, even scraps of fabric and

they LOVE to floss their teeth on spols of thread. Not to mention

piddle on anything plastic as well.

We told this all to my niece and nephew who were getting a puppy and

they were quick to pick up all their toys and are doing a great job

as far as keeping their room clean but it DID get one of my nephews

play figures.

If getting a puppy isn't an option i saw on the nanny where she went

through and took away all toys but one favorite item and when they

learned to put it away they got another toy back. and when they

learned to put both those away they got another and so on.

as far as biz goes. I too am doing much better this season. I am now

not only tripling my fees but quadropling and so on so that is good.

however we just found out that one is raising the price an extra $10

for the spring which we all do not so great at to begin with but it

ensures that we have an " in " for the fall show. I wrote them a

freindly letter already explaining we wont be partisipating and the

reasons why. perhaps they will change thier mind on the price

increase when they find out most vendors wont do it.

I have introduced a few new items, sprayable lotion seams to be a

good pick, even though it had a slow start. and Felitz navidad seams

to be the winter scent of choice. My little froggie soaps are keeping

me busy a sell out pretty much each week.

only 2 more shows to go then i am DONE and i need to work on getting

things ready for christmas. speaking of which i should get something

done before i have to go to work. AUGH. this work thing is killing me

here. Just when i thought i had all my craft stuff under control so i

would have time to do holiday stuff i go and get this job that makes

me work weird hours in the middle of the day so i don't hae time to

do anything. oh well.

No way, no animals in the house. We've got a dog that came to us last

year as a stray & he stays outside. We think something is wrong

because he won't have anything to do with coming in the house. Oh

well, fine with me! My son does have a hamster, but that is it.

They think I'm kidding, but I'm serious about taking everything out of

their rooms except for the furniture. They'll have books, but as far

as toys I'm boxing them up & putting them in the attic. I even told

friends & relatives to get them clothes for Christmas since they need

those more than anything. Some day they will learn I mean business.

I may never see that day, but it'll happen. :)

Congrats on your sales doing well too!
