Guest guest
Regarding the cut-off date for when you child has to turn 5 to enroll in Kindergarten. Is it a state or district policy? Thanks,

Is it a state or district policy? > District policy here in CA. The popular trend these days, because Kindergarten has become so academic (gone are they days of painting and learning your letters :-), is to hold kids back with birthdays that are within 3-6 months of the cutoff (which here is Dec 2nd). Some schools have kindergarten readiness evals to help you decide " to send, or not to send " . It's interesting because the age spread in a classrom is really big because of this..... there are the kids who are young but start anyway at age 4 (like my oldest, wasn't 5 until mid-October), and in this same class might be kids who have a fall birthday but took the extra year (thus turning 6 in the fall), and the occasional child who even turns 7 later in the kindergarten year because they were not such a late birthday (say April, May), but the parents knew they were not ready and kept them out that extra year. Makes trying to figure out birthdays tough...... last year, my daugher (1st grade, age 6) went to her friend's May birthday (also first grade), and her friend was turning 8..... LOL, kids don't get any cards with ages on them around here :-) , mom to (7), (5 DS), and (3) > >
