Hi . That was so beautifully put, and I couldn't have said it better myself. It reflects my thoughts so well, although I admit I still sometimes wonder how things would have been had this not occurred and go through a "why me" thing. Not too often anymore. Now, as I have mentioned earlier, I am having my first replacement on Tuesday, and I'm still a bit nervous about that. I would be a real basket case, though, had I not had the encouragement from this group and the sharing of their experiences in having their devices replaced.

I, too, have LQTS but wasn't aware of it until the episode that caused me to have the ICD.

I noticed there are varying experiences others on here have had with their ICDs firing, with some saying it wasn't much, etc. I personally did not realize that was what was happening to me--certainly no kick in the chest. I was just feeling really funny and said as much to my daughter. She was watching me and said, Mother, your ICD just went off; that's what's wrong. Had she not told me, I would not have known that is what happened. She saw my body "jerk" somewhat, I think she said. I wonder if the difference in how people feel when they get zapped has anything to do with the brand of ICD they have. I have Medtronic. What do most of you have?

I truly am thankful for each and every day, more so now than ever before. It has caused some changes in my life, such as my having to quit work, and I have to pace myself some as to activities because I tire very easily. I think that is probably due to my EF being somewhat lower now. But it's worth every bit of the hassle just to be alive and be with my family. Barb

I have a Medtronic dual chamber... But, Barb, I wonder if your Icd shocked you

at the lower rate...?? I know some are programed to zap you with a 17 joule

shock first and

if the heart doesn't respond, then you get the full 32 joule shock???

OMG, Bridget! No, I haven't been shocked by anything else; thank goodness! I'm afraid of that sort of thing. My grandfather was killed by lightening and my Mother brought us up to have a healthy respect for that and all things electrical. Last month, someone was killed at a concert here at the Verizon Amphitheatre. He was just walking down a concred set of steps barefooted, and they determined later that a light on the step wasn't grounded properly. I couldn't believe anything like that could happen. As I've said before, I'm a scaredy-cat, just in general, about most things, such as having my ICD changed next week.

Hope, Hi My name is and I was just curious...are you having your leads replaced or just the ICD itself? I have had 4 Icd units replaced, and the process is relatively simple. The one time I had to have my leads replaced, the procedure was a bit more complicated. Let me know what they are going to do.. and is there anything specifically that you are concerned about? Please feel free to ask any questions you are wondering about.

If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know...

Always,

I don't think that's it and here's why. My dad used to test light sockets by licking his finger and sticking it in them. He could tell not only if it was live, but if it had the right current. My husband thought I was crazy when I told him that when we were dating. He works in electronics so he knew what current felt like to him. Then one day he saw my dad do it and was amazed. We've played around meters since then and discovered that I have very low resistence which is why I feel current so painfully. My husband has a little more resistence and we figure my dad must have way off the charts.I suspect you have high resistence too. Had you ever shocked yourself in house currenyt before you got your ICD? Was it just a buzz or did it hurt? House current didn't faze my dad, but it knocks me on my butt.BridgetPlease visit the Zapper homepage athttp://www.ZapLife.org
