I

had my beeping AICD checked by the tech yesterday. There are no additional problems with my health, but he said

that the AICD should be replaced ASAP.

So, I made an appointment for it to be replaced next week. I also called Guidant. Their tech said that when the AICD

starts to beep it means the battery voltage has dropped to the point that the

capacitor takes more than 20 seconds to charge if a shock is needed. He suggested that it be replaced with a

Prism 1860 model. Does anyone have

experience with that model?

Norm,

My grandsons guidant ventak prizm modle #

1861 started beeping about a year ago and his ep increased his meds and also

changed settings as it was a warning that it was going to shock him. It

hasn't beeped again since and all is well, he has had it since Dec of 2000 and

has half a tank left (battery life)

Hope all is well with yours.

Hi Norm I'm on my third Guidant. Every time replacement time draws near I contact my rep and find out the newest model out with some actual field experience not just released from trials with limited exposure. I'd prefer to have a unit that's been out there for six mnths to a year to make sure there have been no problems or recalls. That's just my consumer mind but so far it's paid off. the newest isn't always the best it' only the newest. You never have stopped by my group. You're right, Griff. There's saying that you should never be the first

nor the last to use a medical product--including drugs. Let someone

else work out the kinks.

Debbie,

Thanks for

your good thoughts. I’ve never

felt like the wires are pulling, and no pain. I can notice the implant only because of the lump under my

skin.
