Guest guest
Friends of ours had a child 12 years ago and were told their child had, and still does have Trisomy 14, and they were told that because it was so rare and there wasn't much information on it, other than the child dies within a year and that they might want to consider aborting. You know what? The child is fine. Perfectly fine. Not a single thing wrong with her! The only thing they were told after they saw a genetic counselor after she was born was that when she goes to have children, it could be tricky because she does have this extra chromosome. The doctor also told them that there could be thousands of us walking around with extra chromosomes and never know it unless we had genetic testing done. If I were your friend, I would try to find out if they can actually see this connection to the umbilical cord and would there be any chance of corrective surgery while the baby is still in the womb (which I believe they can do now to some extent) or immediately after the baby is born. JMHO......everyone can feel differently about this difficult situation. So sorry to hear when this happens. What a decision to have to make.
