Guest guest
hi leah,, i too, have both the defib. and chf....and i was sent to cardiac rehab with an ejection fraction of 10... in three months they managed to increase it to 35. and in my experience it was the best thing they could have done for me. in fact once i get settled here in mississippi ill be asking if i can be sent again. the nurses will most likely be friendly, courteous, and as helpful as possible... one nurse will sit at a monitor and watch the pulse rates of everyone in the room... they will slow you down or speed you up according to the heart rate... id go forever if they would allow me.... bob in ms
Guest guest
BTDT. Don't worry about it. Just tell the nurses as soon as you get there that you fainted on the stress test and they will be very careful with you. When I was there, we had portable monitors thatwe wore while exercising and the nurses watched continuously and slowed us down if it was warrented. Guest guest
>hi lisa,,, the docs up north had me doing nothing... they said to lose weight and then possibly they could operate on my hips to repair them. ive only seen a new family guy here in mississippi.. he cut my pain meds in half cause he doesnt know me just yet. concerned that the dea would be looking at him if he gave me the percoset i need to take the pain down to a dull roar... i told him id see him in the er when it got so bad that i could no longer walk. he did say he would send my records to a pain management center. i dont care where they send me as long as they help me. as far as the heart and the icd they seem to be secondary to the pain i suffer... i rarely think about them unless im reading emails here.. in cardiac rehab they put me on a treadmill for 5 minutes at 1.2 mph and over the next 12 weeks increased it to 2.4mph. there was also a stationary bike..... and an arm bike,,,,,that was about it for me.....they didnt put me on rowing machines or the stretch exercises. the docs said no stretching exercises... i swear if it wasnt for the one way 25mph drive to get to the hospital id have been still going til the day i left to come here. i must have been sort of a poster boy or something cause they were going to allow me to come to the class free, as long as i wanted to.... i just wouldnt be on a monitor anymore but the nurses would still be there to keep an eye on me. good luck bob in ms >

Guest guest
Bob, Years ago they put me in Cardiac Rehab after my 1st bypass. (1980)) It did more harm than good. They had all these " goals " and " target " heart rate. They hadn't learned that every one is NOT cut out of the same cloth. Before my first heart attack I walked (no, make that ran) an average of 13 miles a day (I had a gas station) 7 days a week. So I must have been in pretty good shape. Never the less, It would take me two days to recover after each workout. I could hardly get out of bed the next day, I was so exhausted. After the first six weeks I quit the class and began to recover nicely on my own. Guest guest
Hi Bridget: My problem is that once my heart goes out of rhythm during a stress test i know i'll be paced right away so then i'll probably panic and get a shock thats why i refuse to take the test unless they turn it off,if i pass out then turn it on so i'll wake up after the shock, i just don't wanna feel it. am i being a chicken?? TURK Cluck, cluck, cluck ... Turk, my cardio makes certain I never get stress even close to zapping point... of course I'm not set up to pace out of v-tach, I go right for the Zap 'cause I slip into 'fib so quickly there's no time for pacing... that might have something to do w/my attitude... I've never been zapped, only during testing in lab and that I scacely remember... but I get stress tests done every couple of years and they don't seem to upset me at all 'cause I have faith that the cardio is complying w/my limitations. Guest guest
I think that might be the problem, i know they're the best doc's around but im not sure if they care enough because if i get zapped it;s just a therapy for them but it's misery and paranoia for a long time, it took me a long time recover from it, i dont want to revert to it. Guest guest
Nah, your not a chicken. I'm just less at risk of going into arrhythmia than you I think. I'm not sure what triggers my arrhthmias but walking doesn;t seem to. And since they reprogrammed to 180 instead of 155, I'm a little more comfortable with the whole ICD thing. Part of this whole thing though, IMHO, is getting in touch with your body. I can feel when my heart rate is climbing above 140, I can feel my blood pressure if it changes. I never used to be able to, but I sure can now.
