Guest guest
I just wanted to let the group know that our church (it is a VERY large church) is starting a special needs ministry! I wish it had happened long ago, but I am grateful they are doing it now. The first step is to meet with families at their homes, and find out what they feel their children's/families needs are. Then, volunteers from our church will work with the children in their sunday school classes, or a separate setting if that's what the family would like. They are also going to do training with the volunteer sunday school teachers, and also focus on peers/friends in the Sunday school class. Some families with children with special needs attended the meeting yesterday, and they would like the church to start a support group for families. If anyone has any input or suggestions that have worked at your church, your feedback would be very helpful! I have a question about an earlier post....what is an IU student?
