Guest guest
Hi all, I've continue to listen to what all you guys have to say. Between the entire group of you, you all have been in similar situations as someone else and have such good advice. I, too, have to take a nap daily. By evening, I'm worthless if I don't get my nap. I just get worn out so easily. It's really frustrating. I used to go strong from morning till night. I have a quite a bit of heart damage from a heart attack so I thought that might be why, and I also had open heart and was interested in someone mentioning that clots could have gone through. I think that could be it too. I want to ask if any of you are having joint pain from the cholesteral meds. I told my doctor that my joints are starting to hurt more and more and they said it could be the cholesteral meds and I said I thought it caused pain in my muscles....one time they had to change my pill because of severe pain in my muscles. Now they are telling me it can also cause pain in your joints. Most of my joints hurt including everyone of my knuckles in my fingers. It's really weird. Does anyone else have this or am I the only weird one? I've been told that before. Ruth in PA
Guest guest
Hi Ruth; What was that pill that caused the joint and muscle pain? I have quite a bit of that problem and i though it was the fact that i get up at least twice every night. Guest guest
Turk, First, I goofed on my last letter. I said about the clots might have caused it and I was talking about needing a nap every day. I also can't remember anything and that's what I meant...that the clots might have caused the memory loss. I just forgot to write that. I feel like I fit right in with all you memory lossers or should I say memory losers. Just kidding, I really do fit in with all of you but most people just don't understand the memory loss. They all think I'm just dingy. Most of the time I just laugh it off but sometimes, it hurts. I was on one med, I forget the name and got severe muscle pain after being on if for quite awhile, then he put me on pravacol and I got the pain again, now I am on lescol and my muscles don't hurt but my joints are really starting to hurt. What are you on? Do you have it in the muscles or joints? After my doctor told me the lescol was causing the joint pain, I asked if it could cause arthritus and they said no but it can cause pain like arthritus. I'm going to talk to him about it when I go to him in Dec. and see if there's another I can try, or maybe they all do it. Ruth in PA

Guest guest
Jes, No, I've never been told I have liver trouble. Does that cause joint pain? And that's it, lipitor was the one I was on first. Ruth in PA
Guest guest
Ruth, I'm with you on the nap thing. For me, it is the meds. No matter how much sleep I get at night, after I take my meds, I get quite tired and need at least a twenty minute nap. I used to get exhausted quickly because of a low ejection fraction but that seems to have improved. On the clots, are you taking some kind of blood thinner? At least an aspirin a day? My EP was careful to put me on aspirin as a minimum preventative for blood clots. He was very concerned when I had runs of atrial fib which increases the risk of clots. Guest guest
Ruth... when you're taking Lipitor, and I assume other cholesterol lowing drugs, you're supposed to have liver functions checked regularly... dh was getting tested every 2 months but tests were always so good that now he goes every 6 months. Hi Ruth in PA, Nice seeing you on Board! Ruth, I have been on every cholesterol med known to mankind. I am currently on 80 mg. of Lipitor a day. I understand that is the max dosage. I have had a cholesterol problem from the get-go - beinning over 10 years ago when I averaged about 400. I had my cholesterol checked last week and it was a unbelievable " 134 " . It was also 134 back in January. Oddly, all the other factors, HDL and LDL and trig were also good. BUTTTTTTTTTT. I have major muscle and joint aches. If I do any manual job for a half hour or more, the next day I have painful spasms, just like Charlie Horses. I get them in the back, in the chest, in the legs....whatever was involved. My elbows and neck ache the most. Even if I sleep wrong, I am awful achy the next day. I blame all of this on the med. I also have only about 20 EF - and it hasn't changed since my MI in 1997. Too much damage. Of course, our potential to do any amount of activity is limited just because of our low EF. I think you and I could change bodies (except for our obvious external differences) and probably feel the same. Hope you are not as hot in your part of PA as I am down here. Guest guest
Hi Tom, I get pain also with almost everything I do manual. But I can't stand to just sit around and do nothing. I have to be doing things. But I still get my nap in every day. My ejection fraction is a little higher than yours. It is about 30 and has been since heart surgery in '99. No one seems to know exactly when I had a heart attack but it seems it was around the time of heart surgery, maybe even during it. I had 4 by passes and none of them worked so it makes me think that's when the damage was done. I went for a second opinion and found out the by passes weren't working and he put stents in which probably saved my life. I'm really glad I'm able to do what I can but I sure get tired of being tired. There was a time I thought I would never be able to do much again and here I am doing it. I am on lescol now for cholesterol. I still have the pains but cholesterol is lower than it has been in some time. Last time it was around 170, I think. With my memory, who knows! I know it was under 200 though. And yes it is HOT here too. I can't take the heat. I stay in the air conditioned house most of the day. Did you have heart surgery?
