Steve thanks for that post! To all, please read attached letter to Phil , Regional Director of Network Management for Providence Health Plans.

We also received ASHN's invitation and I have sent a letter back to ASHN and to Providence letting them know that the fee schedule is an embarrassment and there is no way we will accept it or their ridiculous restrictions. I would encourage all chiropractors in Oregon to reject this or any other such contract. To obtain and keep the Providence contract, ASHN must have a certain number of chiropractors and have good geographical representation. I'm not sure of the details here but I'm fairly certain that ChiroNet almost lost a contract because they did not have enough contracted providers and that's when they dropped their participation fee from something like $1,500 to almost nothing and began signing up whoever they could. They were successful and won the contract but now ASHN has convinced Providence that they can get chiropractors to accept much lower reimbursement.

It seems Dr. Johansen and possibly others are willing to accept patients for what ever reimbursement they can get. This is certainly their right, but it is not a sound business practice, especially when a company is inappropriately bundling codes in direct opposition to national billing guidelines, etc.--this seems FRAUDULENT and definitely unethical! In addition, Ann was correct, the California Chiropractic Association currently has a lawsuit against ASHN, and I have called the CCA and their law firm and asked to be faxed a copy of the complaint. I am sending that complaint along with the attached letter to Phil and encourage you to contact Providence as well.

Also, if you would like Phil 's email address let me know.

In closing, we need not sell ourselves short. Patients are moving toward holistic practitioners in droves and are willing to pay a reasonable fee for such services.

However, if we show the third party industry that we have very little perceived value in our own services, very little is exactly what we will get.

Yours,

We received a call and Fed Ex package from American Specialty Health Network today. Providence Health Plans will be using ASHN as of January, and ASHN is trying to beef up its presence in Oregon. In my opinion, they are among the most restrictive and worst paying of all the panels (98940 - 43 = $37 INCLUDING ALL ADJUNCTIVE THERAPIES. You can do hot packs, ultrasound, diathermy, an anal probe if you want, but $37 maximum is all you can get.), first five visits w/o authorization, but then they have to give you permission to treat patients for the opportunity to potentially LOSE money treating them. We didn't sign a contract with them -- and we're not going to -- so we're not bound by their gag rules. The hope here is that Oregon chiropractors remain maverick and independent and not become the latest doormat for ASHN. (For all you ASHN providers, I of course mean this with the utmost love and respect.....) Alan Creswell Chiropractic OregonDCs rules:1. Coby:

Great letter and fee comparison. Thanks for taking the time and putting forth the energy. You would think if Phil can get Kobe and Shaq to get along he would be willing to help DC's and MD's get along. (Sorry, couldn't resist!)
