Guest guest
There is a product you can buy that thickens drinks...can't think of the name since we never had to use it but I'm sure someone will chime in with it,. It's something like " Thick it " Di thickened juice Ok, my first attempt at writing here. I read the posts and answer individually, but now I have a question for the experts. My daughter is in preschool and has silent aspiration. This means she needs her liquids thickened. Now at snacktime in school, they want the already thickened juice boxes provided. This costs $25 a case. My theory is in her IEP it says she needs thickened drinks, the school should pay for it. Any suggestions? Already went through insurance, and medicade, and bureau of spec. med. services. Guest guest
There are a couple out there. We most frequently use Thick-It. The problem is you can't use it too far in advance or it thickens too much, and the juice will be the consistency of pudding. It only takes about 30 seconds to add the powder and stir or shake the juice. I really think the school is being too unaccomodating by asking this. I agree that I would definitely tell them that it only takes the 30 seconds to mix, it is cost prohibitive to you, and if they insist on having the pre-thickened boxes, they will have to pay the difference in cost. Not only is this in her IEP, it is a medical order of her physician. Do they tell the parents of other children with medical issues similar things? Guest guest
I think that is what is called too. Tabitha used it for Danny. As soon as she reads her messages, she'll be able to tell you for sure. I'm pretty sure she bought it at the pharmacy. You don't need a prescription, you might have to have them order it. Tabitha are you out there? thickened juice > > > Ok, my first attempt at writing here. I read the posts and answer > individually, but now I have a question for the experts. Guest guest
Ok, thanks all for the info on Thick-it. Believe it or not, we tried that and she won't drink it. She drinks such small amounts at a time, that it clumps and thickens when refrigerated. We would have to mix only an ounce at a time, then it wouldn't fit in the cup enough for her to drink it! She doesn't like the change in taste, but we'll have to try it again. TY all Kris, mom to Sierra 3 yr 10 mos.
