Re: Wholesale ?

That's sort of a tough question. It all depends on what you're making and

how much time it takes you. Have you ever figured how much $ per hour

you want to be making? You want to be sure to keep track totally of how

much your ingredients were to make the product, your time, and packaging

costs. I've only done the one wholesale account so far and they didn't

automatically mark them up double of what I charged them. They requested

"suggested retail price" on my invoice and I think they went by that. But it

was very close to a 50% mark up for them. You also have to take into account

what the "market" will bear. Some items you may not make your "hourly" rate

but may be able to make more of your hourly rate on other products to make

up for it. These are all things I'm learning from the Business Consultant that

I'm working with.

M (note: Just remember that when you sell them to a retailer to get a copy

of their "Resale Certificate" to keep for your records so you aren't

responsible for the Sales Tax - they are!!)

Wholesale ?

I'm hoping that I can get more than one response to these questions, sohere it goes:How much do all of you charge for wholesale accounts? Basically I'mwondering what % off your retail you go with. I've heard anything from30-50%.What minimum $ amount do you request? Is this just with the accountsfirst order, or is it on every order? What other terms and/or conditions do you have? Thanks for all the help!ColleenCountry Meadow CreationsOur members maphttp://.homestead.com/locations.htmlOur Message Boardhttp://www.voy.com/21568/Check out these great Molds!!http://soapwerks.com/martinworld.htmAll posts to this list are copyrighted by post author. Thanks for responding ! I've always figured the cost of

ingredients, shipping costs, and packaging in the cost of my products.

I've never tried to figure out how much per hour I want to earn. I've

never kept track of how long it actually takes me to make anything. I

can come close with an estimate, but never sat down and figured it out.

I got an inquiry from a hotel out of state with an interest in possibly

carrying my soaps in their gift shop. In his email he sent his business

cert. #, mailing addy, and website addy. So I know it's legit.

Hopefully it'll turn into something!

Yeah, but it's in need of pictures and an update. I quit posting the addy when

I moved it from Homestead to Bravenet because it wasn't done yet. But since you

asked, here it is: www.countrymeadowcreations.com.

So how about your wholesale terms? How do you figure yours? This is the second

inquiry I've had. The first one went nowhere. I'm hoping with all the craft

shows I've got lined up this fall I can get some out of that too.

Thanks!

Well, You really have to know your costs of your products, Then think about

what others might wholesale for and what you can live with to be sort of

" comparable " . What I loose in price doing wholesale vs retail, I make up

for in quantity. You really have to be careful about cutting yourself

short. I have had a minimum order of $100, but am gonna implement a formula

for those who dont want to spend quite that much, which isnt that much if

you think about it. It will be a breakdown comprimising between how much

they want and how much I charge for each product: For intance, for soap, If

they buy $100 or more the price will be $2.00 per bar, if they buy $75-$100,

the price will be $2.50, if they buy $50-$75, the price will be $3.00 per

bar, if they buy $25-50, the price will be $3.50, if they buy less than $25,

the price will be the usual $4.00 per bar. I've worked this out with each

of my things. I have one client that we have sort of established a

freindship also and I trust her. She orders a lot of stuf from me and I go

ahead and send and then she sends a check. Plus she knows that if she

screws with me some our conditions will be void and she dosnt want that.

But I trust her and I know she woulnt screw with me. But otherwise, I get

paid first before they get their goods. I had once where the girl did a 30

day net thing, and it took a long time to get the money from her. So im

hesitant to do that anymore. But Imight in the future. On my wholesale

page I have an estimated time that I can will send. People always want to

know when to expect their stuf. You have to do what you are comfortable

with but DONT ever sell yourself short.

I always expect their Tax ID numbers also. And state your payment terms.

Lets see... I cant think of anything else right off top of my head. Good

luck with this account! Very very cool Colleen!

Tat is awesome, Colleen! Make sure you quote them a good (meaning:

profitable) price, so you're not kicking yourself six mos. from now as you

" bust your butt " to make them soap at no profit! It's easier to go down

in price than up. And your hard work DESERVES to be rewarded!!

Thanks for all that great info Shaye! I will have to do some more figuring of

my costs, etc. I had thought about doing it based on how much they spend like

you said, but I've got lots of different bars with different prices. I think

for

me, a straight percentage off would be easier to calculate. I'll have to hammer

away at the calculator tonight to come up with some solid numbers. I am just

afraid that I will be undercutting myself.
