ita: My husband took quite a variety of medications until hisEP-Cardiologist finally found the right combination to supplement theAICD. He was on a high dosage of Amiodarone, but couldn't tolerate atthat amount, so it was cut to 200mg once a day. Only problem he seeswith it now is a sensitivity to the sun. When he was on Procanbid his bone marrow stopped manufacturing bloodplatelets, so he had to be taken off that one. (That was a scary one,I'll tell you!!!) He's not on potassium (K-Dur) now, as his Spironolactone helps hissystem retain the needed potassium. His EP-cardiologist put him on Slow-mag (magnesium) right away as apart of his medications. You have to be careful of magnesium as too muchcan adversely affect the kidneys, so get your doctor's advice on it. It's extremely important to monitor Electrolytes, as when potassium isoff, it can result in a bout of hospitalization! He has low blood pressure due to the medications; for him, if his BP is100 over 70 it's considered GREAT as it's usually about 85 over 60. Thedoctors tried to lower his diuretic dosage to bring his blood pressureup, but unfortunately that results in fluid buildup, so it's always backto the higher doses. (We were told that Amiodarone also lowers bloodpressure). His meds are:AMIODARONE: 200 mg tablet, 1 X daily (with food). ASPIRIN:81 mg; one every other day.BETAPACE AF : Heart medicationOne 80 mg tablet, 2 X daily FUROSEMIDE (generic for Lasix):Two 80 mg tablets, in the morning(Sometimes also has to have one in the late afternoonif fluid buildup indicated.). LANOXIN (generic for Digoxin):One 0.125 tablet, 1 X daily, every other day.LEVOTHROID (thyroid medication):One 50 mcg tablet, 1 X dailyNEURONTIN:(for neurologic problems due to the anoxia) One 300 mg capsule, 1 X dailySLOW-MAG: (Magnesium)One tablet, 1 X daily.SPIRONOLACTONE:One 25 mg tablet, 1 X daily I hope the list's experiences with medications will be of assistance toyou. I know that it seems as though the doctor doesn't know what he/sheis doing, but since each person's body is so different, it always takesa different regimen of drugs for each person. And that, of necessity, takes awhile to hit on the right combination. Thanks -- I'm having it done on Tuesday in Akron, Ohio -- we are just south of Cleveland. My EP seems to have a really good handle on the ablation thing -- fortunately, he has a lot of colleagues at Cleveland Clinic as well. If problems still persist after the ablation, he wants a consult with a congenital heart defect specialist at the clinic. Thanks for thinking of me.

Thanks, , Turk, and all of you for your many well-wishes for my ablation on Tuesday. We are really hoping it is successful. I felt really great during the day yesterday, but then had trouble for most of the evening and night again -- seems like when I have one VT run, then I have a whole bunch -- almost constant. Really wears me out!! Sure makes me glad I have my ICD though -- hopefully, I will soon be able to e-mail you all and tell you that I'm feeling really good! Can't wait! Still a little apprehensive about the ablation, but if it helps, it will sure be worth it!

The only apprehension you should have is the possibility that it won't take,

other than that be confident that you will come through just fine. My

prayers are with you.

What do you do when you have a run of zaps, I had them and that is what I

fear, not the zaps but the run of them? Do you go to the hospital call the

doctor or just ignore it?

Hi -

Thanks for your well-wishes! Will hopefully have good news to report soon. I have not had runs of "zaps" (fortunately), only runs of v-tach (my ICD is set to pace and then do lower current bursts before the big zap now, and mostly that has been working -- just makes me feel crummy, especially when happening multiple times in a row -- very hard to sleep - lots of chest flip flops, thumps, that aura you get when you feel like you're gonna pass out etc.). I know others have had multiple zaps, so they may be able to help you more with that one. My EP always says to call an ambulance if I have 2 or more.

Take care -

I join the others in sending my wishes for good luck and a sucessful

procedure on Tuesday.

I believe we all have enjoyed getting to know you while you've been

Glad you are a part of the group!
